How does that compare to the operational cost of developing an app, maintaining an app, paying for the infrastructure behind it, and having the payment processors take their cut, operate customer support etc?

Banks charge business customers 0.3% to 0.6% to deposit cash into bank accounts. So if 1% of people would pay cash that would be 20 billion * 1% = 200 to 400 million GBP per year, purely in deposit fees.

On top of that they'd need to pay their employees more and of course handling cash comes with security and, inevitably, enforcement. Additionally, you need people at every place where cash can be used as opposed to having almost all public transport stations unmanned like in Italy.

So let's say ~double that and round to 600 million to a billion GBP per year.

You can do some serious app development with that I would think. And because they don't pay the app store tax it's going to really be close to that amount.

The person who only sees your contributions once a year should not decide on your promotion.

This is a problem that can be solved by just pressing pause, you don't need ads for this.

Nobody cares about how the game runs on <4GB vram in 2026, upgrade or play something else.

I have found that HN has this population of people that think a budget system bought in 2015 should last them forever and they should never need an upgrade.

This is a problem you have to solve yourself, without relying on making facial scanning and profiling tech widespread.

The simple solution is that you live with the small amount of awkwardness this generates.

The hypocrisy is that meta is creating a tool that their employees are very uncomfortable seeing used on them.

What the law says about consent is irrelevant to the hypocrisy, and the videos are automatically uploaded to meta without anyone's consent anyway. You know this very well, there is no need to cosplay the smart devil's advocate.

Since you can apparently read my mind, there is no need for me to reply

>via our new extensibility system for CC, called Mods, which is launching soon-ish. A mod is a plugin with a new type of hook, which we call a function hook.

An extensibility system called mods, which is a plugin with a new type of hook that we call function hook?

I can't tell if this is real, or you are making fun of overengineered AI solutions.

Is this real?

Great idea, we could also have a standard in browsers that signals you don't want to be tracked. We could call it the "Do not track" header, short for DNT.

It would make sure no websites track you.

I may not be the one that came up with a thought originally, but I can echo it because I agree with it.
