What would you like to see from Firefox to make it more headless and scriptable? Are there specific usecases you're interested in supporting?

I'd love to be able to modify JS at runtime on random websites. Too often there's a bug, or a "feature" that prevents me from using a service, that I could fix by removing an event or something in the JS code.

That's what development tools are for. Or Greasemonkey/Violentmonkey.

As far as I know neither Firefox nor Chrome allow you to modify the JS prior to execution without a plugin. You can run random JS, sure, but you can’t monkeypatch.

My team is hiring for a really exciting position at Mozilla! We’re looking for a founding technical lead on a browser-automation effort for AI systems. This role is in the New Products division and has a lot of agency and autonomy.

This role will shape the long-term architecture and roadmap, write production-grade code across multiple languages, and build the core distributed systems and tooling. This is a rare and unique opportunity to set the direction and guide a high-leverage team, all while helping shape the future of interaction on the web.

Email jervin [@] mozilla.com and mention that you saw this on Ask HN: Who is hiring.

US-only per the Job Description.

Thanks for catching! Updated.

I had the same gut reaction and did a little poking around. It turns out that the voice IS AI. The author has a post on Reddit here saying that they're using Elevenlabs for the voice generation: https://www.reddit.com/r/TMEHpodcast/comments/1k4c8f2/an_imp...

I've been working with Hubs for a couple of years now, and it's been really great for our particular needs. It's easy to setup and deploy your own virtual world on a custom domain, it's all open source so it's easy to re-skin / add features on top of, and the Hubs community discord is very active and helpful. We're using it in a couple of ways:

1) Building virtual venues for social organizations to meet and host workshops in. Youth groups etc. are having a very difficult time adapting to remote first environments, and having a space to gather and have a sense of identity has proven valuable to them. More info at [0] if you want to pop in and see it live.

2) Browser based live theatre is also something we've been exploring in our collaboration with On Board, a rotating anthology of short virtual performances by experimental creators. There's a show coming up next week if you want to check it out [1]!

We could be doing the same thing on a 3rd party platform live VR Chat or Horizons, but the open source nature of Hubs means that we a lot more agency over user privacy & security, as well as the ability to add and modify the stack as needed.

It's still early days for us, but we're building a business on top of Hubs and are getting really positive feedback from our customers.

Why is there no event explore/listing site just for virtual events?

My understanding is that they laid off their WebXR team in 2020.

The Hubs team has been consistently shipping new features, and just posted 3X new roles a couple weeks ago.

There's some overlap here with the therapy technique called EMDR (used to treat acute PTSD). Both EMDR and the Tetris study involve thinking about the traumatic event while experiencing bilateral stimulation.

Studies on bilateral stimulation look really promising as a tool to manage trauma:

I haven't considered Tetris, but I'm researching the effects of Osu! (a rhythm game that requires heavy eye-movement and tapping) on people's public speaking anxiety. I can pretty conclusively show that people who stream with the tag "Depression" and "Anxiety" on Twitch speak considerably more while playing Osu! compared to other games - sort of like this paper but with live streamers https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26100455/ - my interpretation of my data is that people streaming with tags that suggest they are more likely to experience speaking anxiety, speak more while playing games that require heavy bilateral stimulation because they are desensitized to their anxiety.

Is there anyone else looking at or any other material on the subject of EMDR + video games? I can't find anything on the subject, which is kind of ridiculous considering how obvious the link is.

A theory I found plausible was that EMDR was the brain rewarding you for moving away from a stressful situation, and the eye darting is something you do while moving through a physical space.

This made me think of the various games that move through 3D space. Interesting that Tetris also triggers this.

Beatsaber (Osu! but in VR, essentially), has a similar effect on me. I just... let go. It's really cool to see research to this effect.

I read their question as: "Are the images I uploaded private? Will they be used to train ML systems or sold to a 3rd party without my knowledge?".

- We will let you know and get your permission if we choose to train the ML system and improve the efficiency.

- At the moment its about: rectifying your model from the backend if the ML system failed to plot the segmentation properly.

- The Selfie photo alone is shared with the AvatarSDK API for head generation.

- I think going the Privacy policy or t&Cs is a huge pain for a lot of users. So I'm planning to create a bulletin and showcase at the start of creating the model so that the users are well informed :)

Your comment is the only one without a reply from the creator. Wonder why, makes me a bit suspicious.

:)

Somehow missed it. We work on IST (Indian Standard Timing) & we were awake till 5:30 in the morning. Apologies that I somehow missed to reply the above comment. Privacy is something which is very important to us as well. We are and we will be taking a lot measures to make sure that we don't mismanage a user's data in anyway.

Good to hear, thanks for the explanation :) I thought that it could be about timezones, but after scrolling through the comment section twice I noticed that this privacy-related question was the only unanswered one. Should've given you the benefit of the doubt, sorry for the light accusation.

No no! that's perfectly alright. Thank you so much for pointing it out.

X Minus One is great! A friend of mine runs "Retrostrange" - a radio station that plays old sci-fi shows and often features it. I find it really relaxing to throw it on in the background while I work.

I've played around with some of Looking Glass's earlier prototypes and was impressed with the effect. It's one of those technologies like VR - very different in-person than seeing it in a video.

I've been looking for something like this for a while now! Thanks for sharing.
