Why should we be warned. It's pretty much widely known that the entire Trump administration is compromised. That details may be salacious goes without saying.

But are they really compromised? If everybody owns them nobody owns them?

everyone may own them, but that doesn't mean that one group can't make something happen.

every president since regean has been pushed to bomb iran. but only this one did.

they ain't invaded cuba

Everybody owns them except the US voters.

Honest politician is one that once bought stays bought. Thankfully for the world Trump is dishonest.

I've used it for data migration combined with Jupyter Notebook.

While I'm fully aware of DataFrame, I am more familiar with SQL. So I used Python scripts in Jupyter to load Excel sheets into DuckDB, and then run queries in DuckDB. Eventually I export the data back to Excel or SQL Server.

Not the most efficient way to do this I know, but it works for me.

It says "3 days ago". The tag is 2 days old.

I assume it just got pushed?

Yeah… it was patched in the source 3 days ago. Check the linked GHSA.

How do you deal with end users wanting to edit their content? They have no clue what Markdown or Git is.

Which is why suggestions like OP’s are never useful or actually serious. I honestly consider them snobby. Like the person who tells you you really ought to check your engine oil, radiator fluid, and brakes everytime you get in a car. It would prevent some awful issues sure, but it’s not gonna happen for 99% of people.

Having static site generator still require an admin endpoint that end users can use to author, publish or otherwise manage the content. Pushing that to a local tool means now you need to somehow synchronize that content across all of the end users devices without git. Not to mention if there is no server side component that means the client needs to have full permission to publish content on the server. Until recently ssh was the only option. Maybe someone could vibe an iroh app that gives you a vpn'd server side app without that now.

The person you're replying to didn't mention a static site generator. You could simply use Vinyl(fka Varnish), and after you pulled your PHP down, your boring brochure site would still be up.

The first site I put up professionally was a handrolled static generator written in PHP for a state website. Users just edited text files, triggered a rebuild, and then there was a sync to prod if staging looked fine. They could even add new sections by creating new subdirectories, and Imagemagick would automatically conjure new menu buttons and the code would put them in the right place.

> Pushing that to a local tool means now you need to somehow synchronize that content across all of the end users devices without git.

This is not hard. Rsync? Rsyncd?

> Not to mention if there is no server side component

Why would there be no server-side component? What does that even mean? Just give them a script to trigger if you don't want them to have permission to do anything. Give them another script to revert if you don't want to get any emergency calls.

This is not advanced technology. Weird to talk about it like it's impossible.

> never useful or actually serious

So strange. That site was so simple to deal with that it stayed up for a decade after I left. Ancient technology.

> Users just edited text files, triggered a rebuild, and then there was a sync to prod if staging looked fine.

Thanks for proving my point.

> This is not hard. Rsync? Rsyncd?

How do I do that on an iPad or an Android?

> Just give them a script to trigger if you don't want them to have permission to do anything.

uhhh, what permissions does that "script" have? or is that your /wp-admin equivilent?

> So strange.

Indeed.

People edit websites on an iPad?

You don't think anyone uses an iPad or a phone to login to a CMS to author or edit content?

Did you try to implement it seriously? Naturally you need an admin endpoint, it just does not have to be reachable for everybody from the internet, just via your VPN. Big difference.

Generate static pages from your content system. Even for wordpress there's some projects. If you need adaptations, AI should be helpful. You can sell this also to bosses: Delivery of static sites consumes drastically less resources.

DreamWeaver solved that ages ago. There's no good modern replacement though.

That is awesome. I take it I can't run this with nVidia.

Nvidia support for OpenBSD is not really a thing [1]. With AMD and Intel, you have support for modern hardware in the tree [2,3].

The irony is that this seems like the perfect kind of problem to say point an Opus 5.5 instance at.

It is verifiable and has a clear exit criteria. Functional and performance parity.

How is that ironic? If you know how to do this, ensure that the license of the code is compatible [1], and maintain the code, then send the patch to tech@ for review and maybe it gets in.

Just be sure you understand the code 100% before sending it.

What's stopping those students from holding an impromptu memorial?

Most students are probably on trips paid for by others. Many of those groups would probably not be keen to fund an itinerary-free trip to Irvine California for a few days. Even if the students were purported to want to impromptu organize.

Nothing, but the Grace Hopper Celebration wasn't primarily about memorializing Grace Hopper.

Organizing

AI or no AI, this is amazing.

This post is illegible.

What makes it so hard to read for you? The contrast is fine, it even has a narrow column layout to limit the distance your eyes have to travel, the writing style reads quite human and clearly laid out. Or are the 5 pictures giving you trouble?

I used mailbox.org briefly but was very heavily disappointed in it. Canceled my account and moved to Proton.

Why? I have been using mailbox.org for a few years and I am very happy with it.

Not OP, but the Proton UX / UI is far superior to Mailbox.org - which i personally find hard to navigate and disorganized...

I agree the web app is not amazing, I use a native mail application.

i pay for mailbox.org but i never use the webmailer haha, they support IMAP/SMTP

Proton not supporting third party apps and requiring minimum Android 10 to launch their app can keep their app for themselves, clearly they don't want more users.

I'm still on fastmail because I use *@domain.name and Proton only supports a very limited number of emailaddresses, and only 3(!) domains. Sadly.

I like the UI simplicity of posteo. They still have quite some advanced features like encrypted address books and more, with good documentation on the implications. No regrets so far, using it since beginning of the year or so.

Same here. Firefox on Windows 11 looks awful. Edge looks better (I don't use Edge)
