Essentially every single electronic financial transaction that you do (outside of crypto exchanges) involves an IBM mainframe. A huge number of businesses run on top of IBM I (like Costco).
It's plenty alive, just not as much inside of Silicon Valley itself.
I don’t think Apple is gonna go home because of the three-headed memory cartel, since they didn’t spend/burn billions (one trillion?) of dollars on AI, I think they will replace the cartel in-house, Intel is out and Qualcomm is on the way out, the three headed cartel can follow them.
Not gonna happen with China in the world, they will sell to every place else on the face of the planet this memory bump is temporary, also keeping it high means other companies will reconfigure what they do. if you want to continue to sell millions of devices at a reasonable price, you’re not going to sit on the sidelines and wait for the three-headed cartel.
You are going to get busy. and design and engineer around the cartel. Is there one company in the world that might do that? A company that has the engineering, design and the money with the capacity to execute over time?
Absolutely. far too many people are thinking about the next 2 to 4 years. How many times must they see the Chinese play the long game before they figure it out?
That’s not the point. You’re speeding up the progress of them becoming a competitor, a relentless competitor worldwide.
And you are now encouraging other large pocket tech companies inside and outside China to give thought to taking memory in-house if that means making and selling devices at a reasonable price in a timely manner.
The problem is that you’re giving them an in into the market, and as time goes on, they will get better at making memory. That’s like saying you’re going to exclude the Chinese the space station. Look what happened. They now have their own space station?
The rest of the world won’t care. They will use whatever memory they can get, and if the Chinese are willing to supply it over the next 5 to 10 years, they end up on top…
