The western audience doesn't need the hint to dislike it - the curse upon the Jews victory to Islam and shooting random vessels and taking crew hostages (very relevant here) are doing the job just fine.

This argument doesn't work, the average majority of humans are bad at math but recent LLM aren't.

But people who are bad at maths are unlikely to be writing about maths. A crude example might be if you search for “2+2=” in the training data, you’re much more likely to find “4” as the next character.

Obviously llms are far more complex than this, but I think this proves the point. The fact you had to add the “recent” qualifier there highlights that llms in general were bad and had to be provided with corrective targeted training data to improve. (And they still can’t count the R’s in strawberry!)

> they still can’t count the R’s in strawberry!

My resident Qwythos-9B counts 3 "r"s in "strawberry". So even locally hosted models are catching up.

> And they still can’t count the R’s in strawberry!

Really? I do not have the time to survey the modern LLMs to see if your assertion is correct, but if it is then I'm surprised; I would have thought that that one would have shown up so often in their training data that they would be able to answer that question, even if they would then be unable to (for example) count the R's in raspberry, or in some other word where "count the R's in _____" was not widely found in recent online discussion.

I mean a very quick check in ChatGPT got it wrong today, yeah! I’m not sure what model I was using, but it proves the point!

It seems unlikely to find 1920 level or so proof although it might be the case that a significantly easier/shorter proof exits via Vandiver conjecture + extra work or Effective Mordell conjecture but it also wouldn't surprise me if that would be even more complicated than the current proof of FLT.

Yeah Vandiver was on my mind, this is why I said 1920. Wouldnt mind it more complicated, but with simpler concepts and most importantly concepts that feel like they have something to do with FLT (cyclotomic fields, not modular forms).

Buzzard is writing for his blog audience - mostly mathematicians and not the casual visiting HN user.

Eh? The quote is from Anthropic, not Buzzard.

Does somebody knows what top locales list is sampled from? their own usage data? Also when they will use their AI to give better directions in Waze?

> It's not a separatist movement, but an independence struggle.

What's the difference?

> And the Javanese of Indonesia aren't just a different tribe, they've a completely different race from completely different lands.

Why would that matter? Would it be okay if they were the same race? How do you define race?

A separatist movement is generally one where a group wants to secede and become their own country. See Alberta in Canada.

An independence struggle is where a people are trying to remove an occupying force, their colonizer.

Very similar, but not quite.

> Why would that matter? Would it be okay if they were the same race? How do you define race?

It matters when the colonizers are racial supremacists who look down on your culture, traditions, and way of life. And as a result of their POV, they confiscate your lands (because they don't accept your unwritten land ownership "titles"), wipe out your men, and replace you with their own people.

> How do you define race?

Head over to reddit where your trolling will be welcomed.

So according to you, American Revolutionary War was a separatist movement but not an independence struggle? > Head over to reddit where your trolling will be welcomed.

Race is a term with a rather vague meaning, if I remember genetics correctly both groups here belongs to the East Asian branch of Humanity although to distant branch, which made me question what the different races are here, understanding you definition of race would have been helpful to understand why you used it instead of ethnic groups.

No trolling here, your weird definition of an independence struggle was definitely a good reason to ask you to define your terms.

> So according to you, American Revolutionary War was a separatist movement but not an independence struggle?

It was both, but yes, more a separatist movement. It was British colonisers separating from their government, not a colonised people overthrowing their colonisers.

No I don't know who "You-Know-Who" is, speak plainly.

Fuck this deliberate teasing and marketing. Call me when they are done.

They shot down some drones and lent an army base? Hardly rousing support. If I’m not mistaken, Jordan also shot down some drones, are they next up?

I’ll agree with gp, in any case seems unwise to give the UK cause to further involve themselves.

I have some vague memories of people praising the prose of The Name of the Wind but being less impressed with its plot.
