Flipper Zero is for the physical layer: radio, RFID, IR, etc... It is based on a small microcontroller and is mostly "bare metal", think Arduino, ESP32,...
Flipper One is for the network layer: Ethernet, Wi-Fi, 5G, etc... It is a "real computer" running Linux, like a Raspberry Pi.
In this document we introduce a new hardware-based tool for diagnosis
and repair of network related hardware and software problems. This
tool is best suited to addressing nondeterministic problems such as
those described above. This tool has broad areas of application at
all levels of the OSI model; in addition to uses in the physical,
network, transport and application layers, it has been used to
successfully address problems at the political and religious layers
as well.
flipper zero is just a small device with an SMT32 MCU,
flipper one is a whole bloody linux computer, with an rp2350
I suppose the idea is it combines workflows you'd use a flipper zero + pc for into one device.
Neat in idea, im not certain who it's truly for in practice. A flipper zero 2 with wifi built in and some minor improvements would have been much more welcome in my eyes.
I used it instead if needing to have a pocketful of access keys and garage/gate remotes. Also the remote control was great for random AC units or muting the sound on the airport lounge newsmax horror television.
but it broke too much and I found a better solution
Sorry...for the keys I got a very small chameleon ultra, fits on a keyring, the pocket toy has been replaced with a M5 cardputer which is better at being a real tool than flipper as it has all the sensor options.
The flipper was still a very nice thing to put in the pocket for along time for sure
The chameleon can get a clone one on Ali for much cheaper and depending on the revision better hardware. I like supporting the originals but in this case the difference is pretty big (cost/quality)
Cardputer has a new pi zero variant coming out this month that runs full Linux, half GB Ram only, but should be fun nonetheless
Chameleon claims this on their website about clones:
Why Clones Underperform
Stable RFID requires accurate timing and tuned antennas for perfect coupling.
Cloned devices compete on price. Reducing the price means using lower-quality components (less precise, wider tolerance), which results in poor performance. Likewise, lowering testing standards means a cloning factory has fewer rejects - but customers receive devices of unproven stability and performance.
Yeah, they should have included a comparison on the Kickstart page. If you check out the "we need your help" page, that has a chart with "Zero vs One":
Yeah, this is just a Linux computer. May as well get a raspi unless you particularly care about the form factor. Zero was the real interesting product.
RapidCAM.app (https://rapidcam.app) has excellent support for AI. The file format specs are published and open source so AI can easily write an ".rcam" file.
RapidCAM.app is a parametric 2.5D CAD/CAM for CNC and laser with support for rotary axis. RapidCAM.app runs in the browser or as desktop apps. There is no login required. The app is free to use. Privacy is respected. rcamhub.com is the sharing site for .rcam files.
Within the App, you can define your project and then use the built in prompt generator. This creates a prompt with all the details AI could need. Once the AI replies with the file, you can paste it back into the app which will then verify the file for you.
Desktop versions of the app have MCP server built in so AI can control the app directly if that is a route you prefer.
I started RapidCAM for my own use as I found that the CNC was sitting idle simply because firing up a full CAD/CAM package took too long. The idea with RapidCAM is that you can quickly sketch out your job from as simple as you need to as advanced as you want going from unconstrained to full parametric/constrained as required.
But judge! We can't be a monopoly ["Quickly... delete all instances of 'Instagram can hurt us' emails..."]. Email exists. Mouths exist, people can communicate without using Facebook...
Rapidcam.app is a CAD / CAM for CNC and laser. The file format is designed for LLMs and for version control. The app has a in-built prompt generator and solver so you can use your own LLM.
https://rapidcam.app CNC and laser CAD/CAM for both quick designs and full 2.5D parametric models. Free and runs entirely client side in the browser with no log in required.
The file format is open source, designed for LLMs and for source control. The app has a visual diff system built in.
I designed RapidCAM for me as none of the available options really met my needs. Happy to see that other people are now using it.
I make RapidCAM.app so have an appreciation for the amount of work Antimony must have been to get to that point.
