Being limited to a single platform, and then to a single store is a huge drawback. Some games, like Alan Wake 2, are Epic exclusives. Do you plan to address that?
Personally, I solved the issue by decoupling the whole idea and just manually tracking time. As a bonus, you could track other activities like work. Link in the profile.
That is a very good point. Thank you very much for your comment. Yes, I am aware of this drawback, I have plans to address this point at later stages but for the initial phase I wanted Sentinel Signal to be really focused on solving core problem very well for Steam gamers and work right out of the box with no need to do manual tracking.
At some point I will probably expand game detection to other platforms but I will ensure that it will have extremely high accuracy before doing so.
Devil’s advocate here. Huge drawback is a relative POV considering the vast majority of people who play computer games do so on Windows, using Steam. I feel it worth mentioning that the HN crowd may be biased in ways that your other users don’t care about. Joe Schmo on Windows using Steam doesn’t care if you expand out to Epic Games on FreeBSD or whatever instead of adding more featurez. Best of luck with your app, it looks cool :)
Thank you very much! My feeling is also similar to yours, that is why I initially purely focused on Steam platform though even for Steam platform our audience is kinda niche I feel like but let's see what the future will bring.
How long do you think it will take for desktop displays or VR to hit the perception PPI limits? Sounds like we still have decade or two, given current monitors aren't there yet (are they?) and GPUs struggle to pump out so many pixels, even more so as screen area has tendency to increase.
It is closer to 16K. In terms of PPI limit the Apple Vision Pro does ~3300 PPI. For it to hit perception PPI I remember we need close to 1000 PPI at same distance for it to fit PPD close to 100.
So I say in terms of those limit we need another 10 years. Which is also why I think the Vision Pro was 2 - 3 years too early. But then Modern Apple has the cash flow to continue to fund it.
Anything in particular that you miss? Over the last several years, JS got a bunch of native versions of functions you'd usually grab lodash for, like groupBy or Set intersections or .at(-1).
>We all do the same thing. We sigh, our eyes glaze over, and we click "Accept All" with the muscle memory of a weary soldier.
No. When I see a cookie banner that doesn't have a "Reject all" or at least "Reject non-necessary", I leave the website. When you look into the "Reject..." section, it often contains 1000+ of adtech shit you have to untick individually. Aren't these actually non-compliant with regulations? Makes you think twice about website owners if they choose to sell your data to adtech - seems like law does exactly what it was supposed to do. The problem is adtech which encourages to collect data websites have no business at collecting. If anything, non-compliant sites should be fined into ground and adtech outlawed.
People like the author are part of the problem. Blindly clicking consent is allowing site owners to bully you into consent. It works, so they keep doing it.
If you're going to blindly click anything it should be decline all.
Recently, I wanted to TTS a book with abogen. I main Windows and it does everything I want from it, mostly gaming and web dev. It didn't work with my 7900XTX because of Pytorch incompatibility. Even Zluda didn't help because it lacked a specific feature necessary for the app. I just want to use locally AI powered software. AMD/Windows combo sucks for this.
If it's dangerous to stay in home country or there are almost no work opportunities, a lot of people choose to leave. Surely they'd appreciate seeing family and friends through a more rich medium than flat video. I'd certainly do.
My parents immigrated from India to the US for those reasons. I understand what you're talking about and agree. That's not the type of reason I meant to allude to.
