If it was explicit and could be opt-out (partially or totally) it would be a good feature.

It's the proof that people have too much money and should instead give it to Sam Altman that will make a more efficient use of it for our collective wellbeing®.

Maybe someone insisted to start counting month at zero.

Google give enormous priority to new content, especially on very well referenced and active sites like HN. So it probably doesn't mean as much as you think.

I can search for many technical terms that have recently been posted to HN and it and appear in the comments and it won't come up on the front-page, let alone the first two items.

At this level, the title is fake news, there is approximately zero chance this go in the final law at this point.

But all usual troll that like to trash talk on Europe at every occasion will be there to add their comment.

Imagine a US House of Representatives passes a law that allows higher taxes for obese people. And someone would say: “lol it’s fake news, it will never pass the senate”. Even if it doesn’t pass the Senate later, it’s huge news now that it passed the House in the first place.

That's not the right way to understand what happened. It's not as in the US with both parties in session and every vote count. It's very common in France for working sessions on technical texts to have very few deputies. Here only 35 where present, and only 21 bothered to vote. And now and then a minority party uses this for a PR coup, passing some text with no real majority while most are away. It has no consequence because it's turned down in the senate never to come back again. But there's always some politician to use such stunt for publicity. It's a nothing burger, but you need to understand how it works in France to get this I guess.

> never to come back again.

Now, you know that bad ideas have an immortality all their own.

This sort of thinking may take on new life in the context of the overall European economic situation => https://theconservativetreehouse.com/blog/2026/10/29/europea...

Ok, thanks for explaining

It seems likely this will never pass esp in this political environment, but maybe legislators should consider the international reputation costs of stupid decisions.

Their job is quite literally to sit in sessions and discuss potential laws, this is what us taxpayers give them money to do. It's not embarrassing to talk about whatever laws, regardless of how stupid because again, this is their job, they're evaluating things.

It'd be embarrassing if they'd actually make this as-is into law, which for obvious reasons wouldn't happen right now, but that hasn't happened yet.

Just like it's not embarrassing for a software developer to write code that has bugs, this happens even to the best of us. What would be embarrassing, would be to have that code deployed as-is to production, with bugs, that's the part we should be vigilant about.

the amendment passed, no? so it already survived quite a bit of discussions

Yet they passed the amendment, so... that is a decision not a discussion.

We’re in the era of international stupid decisions, exhibit A - the US

Yes, repeating my comments from the other time this was disingenuously posted ( https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50310796 ) , this should be flagged if not removed. The way these posts are being titled is misinformation and rage bait.

It's also disappointing to see how many users here, people who you'd expect to at least have a mild familiarity with the internet and how it works, don't read the article, comments, or sometimes even the entire OP. They see a title that supports their biases, make wild assumptions, and immediately move to spitting vitriol into the comments.

That it made it even this far is ridiculous. I would chalk it up to the "boomer mentality" of out of touch politicians rather that a Europe vs America thing though.

This is not a definitive vote, there is few reason to think it will be adopted in the final budget law as the government and Senate will be probably against this amendment. Additionally it's expected the budget law will be globally rejected by assembly itself as there is no clear majority at the moment.

Maybe just read this like an arrow?

I think wind will be more or less a dead end compared to solar in long term, the maximal installed capacity is much much smaller than solar energy.

What on earth makes you think that?

  > It’s part of a herd behavior, to signal an ideological position.
You can just use a word that other use in order to be understood by them, not to signal anything.

It’s ideological in that it’s generally used by people that are anti-AI, or are trying to call out some perceived problem with AI.

In my experience, as I alluded to, it’s not commonly used by people who are thinking seriously for themselves about the benefits, risks, and consequences of AI and the economic activity surrounding it.

Lol idk about that, some of the biggest AI fans at work use it. It's just common slang now, you're assigning too much to it

> It’s ideological in that it’s generally used by people that are anti-AI

It's much more nuanced, after all. Example:

https://lucumr.pocoo.org/2026/5/26/clankers/

That article only confirms what I’m saying. The author is describing their personal perspective on the word, but that’s not how it’s used in general, which is why the author received pushback on their undocumented and idiosyncratic usage.

I literally run an AI startup; we all talk about the clankers and have for more than a year

Very interesting but on a naming perspective what is a "micro large" model ?
