My servers can’t and shouldn’t run GUIs so you can take your “hot take” and stuff it... somewhere else. Choices are great to have. Advocating for fewer choices deserves the derision it’s been met with in the comments here.
Not sure if LXCs would help in that regard as I haven't used it for gaming but you can share a GPU between LXC guests and the host. I have an unprivileged LXC running in Proxmox that uses the GPU for transcoding video.
FWIW Incus is really good here. I don't quite have it fully working for headless gaming containers sharing a single GPU, but I'm very confident it will work at this point.
I was wringing my hands trying to decide between Ente and Immich for a while as I'm trying to de-Google. I went with Immich in the end, but Ente seems like a great alternative for anyone that doesn't want to self-host.
I've been using it for the last 3 years since I needed to use Macs for work and it is a boon compared to the janky/jarring native Mac app switching behaviour.
I went to check if Flatpak would protect against this but it seems although it's a wanted feature it's not so straightforward to implement: https://github.com/flatpak/flatpak/issues/4311
Thanks for the reply. What I'm getting from numerous HN discussions is that 8GB is a hopeless case (and the money I saved on RAM should be spent on non-local coding assist).
So many in the software world pretend to care about human rights for some kind of credibility that they're good people. I've seen Ukrainian flags all over GitHub on many profiles or repos but the same people will be silent on the atrocities happening in Gaza, Lebanon, etc. Notepad++ left a sour taste in my mouth when they did the same and now they're "commemorating" something that happened decades ago rather than call attention to what's happening now.
Edit: here comes the Hasbara brigade with the downvotes.
You can care about some issues more than you care about others, or only speak out against some of them. I don’t think anyone is (or can be reasonably expected to be) speaking out about every single atrocity happening in the world. That doesn’t mean they don’t care about human rights. People are nuanced. It’s not all or nothing.
