The whole RAM Altman saga shows that people back basic reading/listening comprehension. Altman constructed really stupid straw man and within that framework he was completely right. Yet people act like he actually thinks people should not be able to buy RAM for personal use. But I've got to admit that some funny memes came out of it.

There are some situations that can wipe your savings - even large ones - really quickly (e.g. cancer).

Wouldn't healthcare cover a large portion of these kinds of expenses? At least they do in quite a few parts of the world.

Not sure why you're being downvoted. Most parts of the world yes. Somehow in the US, no. My sister had cancer for 7 years and I think I probably paid close to $50k on her treatments because the treatments her insurance covered weren't sufficient so we had to take her to an out of network clinic (Mayo).

The "most parts of the world yes" is absolutely not true. Unless you consider G20 countries to be most of the world. In most parts of the world if you want actual state of the art treatment, you've got to pay from your own pocket.

Antrophic shouldn't self-regulate, it's government responsibility to do that. Unfortunately US has demented manchild as a president so that doesn't work like it should.

Can you share it? Sounds fun!

It will be impractical to self host, but not to get one that's served from other providers (which won't have to recuperate loses from training).

Apart from physical world interactions which is obviously lacking, which domains lag behind and do not improve then?

Turns out that METR, the PR operation for big AI labs is better at predicting AI capabilities than AI skeptics.

What have they predicted? Ive read their papers, have you?

Please enlighten me. Most of them are cognitive scientists, who are mentally ill with little understanding of computers, larping as if they do. Its a chapter of the effective altruistic cult.

They are lobbyists at best, and a psychological operations unit of effective altruistic AI syndicate at worse. There's no real science being done, it's a bunch of moonlighting philosophers yapping and getting paid by labs to scare the normies and polticians by getting their "research" quoted in the NYT.

You rattled them lmao

Once the gravy train ends they are not grooming any more OF girls off reddit

Is being locked in to three obnoxious companies that much better?

It’s a bad argument. AI isn’t single use. Current iteration of AI is already there and serving it is cheap. So you get great tool for detecting these issues in the future at low cost. Without AI the cost wouldn’t really decrease with time. And also it costs me 200$ now to find these bugs. I don’t think I could hire software engineer for that much.

I'm not sure what you're saying here, it doesn't seem related to what was said before.

Detecting issues doesn't stop the issues getting created in the first place.

The goal should have always been to make the issues impossible in the first place.

> Without AI the cost wouldn’t really decrease with time.

The cost of what? AI has a front-loaded cost, just like producing better tooling.

> And also it costs me 200$ now to find these bugs. I don’t think I could hire software engineer for that much.

Tooling that prevents the bugs in the first place is effectively free once it has already been made.

I'll address only last point because everything else stems from that.

> Tooling that prevents the bugs in the first place is effectively free once it has already been made.

Surely you understand that such tooling is basically impossible to create and even if it was impossible it would be so horrendously expensive and hard to implement that AI would actually turn out to be cheaper. Under the false assumption that such tools could be produced you are right, but that assumption is absurd.
