btw the hoarder project is an active victim of a patent troll[0][1]; the official Firefox extension is currently blocked by dmca[2]. any donations might be helpful.

elinks is another textmode web browser that supports some javascript. https://github.com/rkd77/elinks/

spent quality time in my youth making xkcdphone style doodles for the fingertip typing gadget used by a character in Digital Fortress, something like this: https://www.techeblog.com/tip-tap-finger-computer-input-devi...

nice to see this on hn. the dev has just announced[1] start of codebase migration from vb6 to twinbasic which should negate all of the cons described in the article.

xyplorer has been providing partial compatibility with 64-bit windows shells by way of some "sidecar" executables, which act like hosts for 64-bit shell extensions, thumbnailers, and whatnot.

iirc some of these sidecar tools were originally written in autohotkey; now that's another interesting language.

So we do not need LLMs for hallucinations, humans are already good at those?

> God help you if you want to use Goodreads...

How could anyone support Goodreads seeing as their api is closed off? Thankfully calibre has the goodreads-sync plugin which still works as well as it does.

If you meant the splash screen when it starts up, this can be turned off in the settings.

Otherwise the core app's UI looks fine to me personally, though some of the plugins make some, unusual, choices.

The UI is a mess of buttons and menus strewn about everywhere. I'm not complaining, Calibre is a great project, but let's not kid ourselves that the UI is even mediocre.

~~I think that's supposed to be the scroll bar~~. what's caught my eye is the gaps between the content and the border in the window corners.
