Lets see; a phone os no one used, and ad on installed without user permision as a tie-for a TV show, browser integration with a thirdparty bookmarking service that should have been an optional addon, a VPN, an abborted browser based video confercing service based on open standards that they killed for non obvious reasons, a bunch of social justice initiatives, an email masking/forwarding service killing their addon APIs in favor of googles more limited api.
To be fair to the vpn product, at least they did it through a partnership with mullvad, one of the least-terrible (not even in the same ballpark as the likes of nordvpn, etc) commercial vpn service providers in existence.
Amen. We are still running highly unoptimized workflows in AWS and nobody reviews why we spend so much $ on that now while it was peanuts when we did it all ourself.
Satya Nadella at the LlamaCon event in April 2025: "I’d say maybe 20%, 30% of the code that is inside of our repos today and some of our projects are probably all written by software."
In particular Github, with it's copilot-next initiative, has probably so much AI generated code inside today that fixing all this new performance problems will need lots of human developer brains.
That's why we started to force our developers to take ownership and responsibilities of what there AI ships to other developers for review. It's stunning how the amount of code decreases and the quality of the deliveries improves when developers put extra effort in to iterate on decreasing the complexity AI introduces. In lot of cases you can vibe code that too when understanding the output and guiding your AI on the path.
All it takes is to be part of the Kernel security team. I am surprised that many commercial strong distributors just not care enough to join the Kernel security team. Hopefully a valuable lesson was learned and fixes are applied.
