Yep, both can coexist perfectly well, in fact rail + flight + water + cycling should be good enough to account for the vast majority of mobility requirements.


Those facilities can be much more modest and can scale up and down depending on location. Particularly for smaller short haul aircraft.

But possibly closer to where a lot of people live (towns and suburbs) and able to be more flexible to where they might want to go. Such as having direct flights to a coastal holiday destination rather than needing to connect through a city centre.

The video cites the large number of existing flights that are short enough for the electric. I am not sure they should be judged based on whether they make air travel more appealing overall - making it cheaper and lower emission is plenty.

I agree that hindsight is doing work here, but DeepSeek R1 from Jan 2025 seemed to heavily leverage distillation, and 18 months is an eternity in this climate.


Super interesting. I am always wondering where the bridge between symbolic programs and inline connectionist approaches could be. LLMs can call traditional programs "in process" as tools, but the other way usually just looks an external, expensive call. Maybe this fits in for a certain class of program. For super simple programs, yes, this doesn't make sense. For very complicated programs, the generated code would begin to look like spaghetti so fine that it begins to look like weights.
