The GPU situation is even more concentrated. NVDA data center was $39B last fiscal year — roughly 90% of their total revenue. No European alternative exists for AI compute workloads.
SEC calls this round-tripping. ASC 606 requires commercial substance — if both parties just book offsetting transactions, auditors flag the net cash flow as zero
They're already ahead of you; you have to consistently book revenue (accrual or cash basis) which means they both go at the same time (which would offset) or that real money is being exchanged. You can't accrue the 100 you're (supposedly) giving me now and THEN accrue the 100 I'm giving you next year.
Goodwill almost always raises concern with authorities and audits, so I'd imagine so sort of quid pro quo version is equivalent to loudly yelling to be audited!
the hallucination problem is especially bad in financial AI. one made-up revenue number and someone makes a bad investment. the actual 10-K is the only source of truth for company data
That sounds like way less of a problem than science. If you take bad sources you hurt yourself financially. For science (especially anything medicine related) you can hurt many others physically.
fair at the individual level. but now these tools are used in quant models and at retail scale — one systematically hallucinated metric can affect a lot of real portfolios
the cuts are a mix shift play. AI networking orders are higher margin than legacy hardware. they want that ratio to improve. income statement will show it within 2 quarters
5% on the 30-year raises the risk-free rate, which changes the equity discount rate. a 40x stock looks very different at 5% vs 2%. growth stocks re-rate when yields move
MA upcoding survives because insurers profit from risk-coding patients sicker. if this breaks that link, watch how insurer Medical Loss Ratios shift in 10-K filings over the next 2-3 years
What strikes me about M&A tip rings is the risk/reward math. The people accepting tips get limited upside — edge on a single trade — but career-ending felony exposure as the downside.
The SEC's EDGAR makes an enormous amount of material information freely available: 10-Ks, 8-Ks, proxy statements, insider ownership filings. Investors who systematically work through that public record can build durable informational advantages. The MNPI game is a strictly worse deal on expected value.
