Thanks to linked in, I saw who was on a 1st level connection with the ex-director there who was arrested for running ads for prostitutes in Bellevue. Those 1st level contacts are still there and in higher positions now. Being 1st level on linkedin doesn't mean they are the same character or were part of the crime, but they are all in management positions. I emailed some women that still worked there and told them they should leave.
That's a really bizarre way of thinking. 1st level connection doesn't mean personally close. Are you willing to be held responsible for the misdeeds your own 1st level connections might get up to?
1st level and in the same small org. People that would have known, interviewed, and hired the person. Companies don't just hire rando's of the street they know nothing about into high management positions.
Yes that's insane I used to work for a huge Arab civil engineer in london - the head of my division will have known many of the Bin Laden family and quite possibly met Bin Landen when he was younger.
To answer your question, I hope it has changed. I was uneasy there with how managers would chat up the young women employees in their offices (with the sliding roller doors) for hours. In a few instances I felt uneasy with the way some people were obviously drooling in close proximity to women, staring, etc. That's what you get when there is tons of alcohol in the office. If the place has not changed I would recommend a no outside alcohol policy and training to prevent sexual assault.
Yeah, I considered that, managers there are always trying to hire women they want to fuck and have heard anecdotes of interns who think using sex will get them a full time position. This was not that case.
First you're goddamned right I stalk all those shady people. And yes, I said something like, one of the management associates was charged with pimping out sex-trafficked women, I think maybe you should find a safer place to work.
No, knowing English is not required to be a software engineer. There are millions of software engineers around the world, a large percentage of which do not know english. Virtually all modern languages and tools support UTF-8 which can encode almost all symbols of all languages.
"After I departed in 2012, the public interest seemed to die down, and hockey stick growth along with it."
lol. Are you trying to imply you were the life of the party? And Klout's business model was clearly pilfer everyone's data from other sites that were "linked."
This is amazon's model. A cobbled together team of 1-3 low level engineers takes a feature of some open source software package or the entire package itself, wraps it in an ill-conceived web layer or existing service and makes a big announcement about it. Almost no one uses it, but there will be lots of conference talks about how great it is.
Go do a stint at Amazon and you will understand. Executive management is insane there. For instance, executives will just lie and say they are in charge of the X team where X is something popular and upcoming. There will be for instance, 3 teams each claiming to own a part of the business. Then you have middle managers lying to executives about what they have accomplished and will accomplish. Executives are clueless. At the low end you have teammates all who want to know what you are working on so they can go tell management they are working on it and you are just helping. If anyone finds out what you are working on you have literally 1 day to deliver the project before someone either takes credit for it or gets it shitcanned.
No, but there is a "not this shit again" attitude. Over the last 50 years it has been done. Most of the time people with a new syntax also have stupid names for already agreed upon constructs and ideas. Those people are trying too hard to be different. Maybe one language uses ->, another uses =>, so Joe Language programmer is going to use <!@==>>>. But no one is going to type <!@==>>>, so the language fails. Joe exits programming and there are 10,000 dead computer languages with worthless syntax that didn't help people write software better.
That is the biggest load of bullshit I've ever heard. What if your business focused managers fuck up and accidentally write some code? Then they can no longer understand how to work on valuable and sell-able projects? Managers destroy projects and companies and create worthless work all day every day.
This sounds like a sponge operation to gauge how much experimental flight testing programs may impact the public, how secret it is being, collect debris that falls into public hands, etc. Obviously if it was done under the auspices of a military operation that would lead to questions. But no one questions the motives of people posing as UFO investigators.
