well, years ago is a long time in tech. the latest videos I've seen show people not having to touch the wheel any more, and it apparently drives fairly long complex routes with no intervention.
There's even Teslas operating as "auto taxis" now in some cities - they drive entirely without anyone even in the driver seat.
I TL;DR the update release notes, and wasn't aware that the wheel holding requirements were gone. I am not convinced yet, as I got a phantom "take control of your vehicle" alert when leaving the driveway a few weeks ago, for no apparent reason (hands on wheel, no visible hazards). They happen every once in a while. My daughter has been thinking of using the Tesla alert sound in one of her trap songs given our familiarity with it.
This seems a bit odd, you'd have to be dancing like a total loon before you got any viral traction. The vast majority of people already dance just by slightly moving their arms whilst gently shifting their weight from one foot to the other. Surely such people don't think anyone would watch videos of their rather lame perambulations?
Whereas the people who do dance like total loons would only welcome internet fame.
Berlin has banned mobile phones from clubs for pretty much ever, but only to prevent pics of people off their tits causing them trouble at work.
How do you think coins are made? And distributed? Of course at the moment, both systems exist so it appears that blockchain is additional and therefore unnecessary. Isn't that often how new technology first appears though?
As another example, there have been similar articles about the amount of energy used by internet datacentres. While a lot of energy is certainly used to keep the internet running, such figures are only really meaningful when compared against the existing systems they can replace. What is the environmental impact of building libraries, stocking them with books, heating and lighting them, and the physical journeys that their users have to make to get there?
I'm pretty sure electricity use of the existing currency system does not alone potentially account for 2 degrees C of global warming. Since you know, making a physical coin doesn't require deliberately burning untold numbers of CPU cycles for each transaction once it's made (nor does any corresponding digital record-keeping of it either).
It's very young right now, I don't think it's been live much more than a month (?), so is a bit of a ghost town. Unlike the other Reddit clones that have popped up recently (ruqqus, saidit, voat) it is not overrun with right-wing trolls (yet).
I think it's going for a distributed model, like Mastodon, where anyone can run their own instance with their own rules and whatnot.
I disagree. If the wishes of the electorate were unambiguously publicly available, then it would be much more obvious when elected representatives are not serving them.
Right now we're reliant on things like polls or the FCC's farcical comment system, which can easily be gamed.
