We're not gonna make it, are we? People, I mean.

It's in your nature to destroy yourselves.

I often wonder if whatever it is we currently experience as consciousness or self-awareness was a major contributor to species-wide problems such as climate change.

Having come across Zapffe's "existential elk" theory in the last year, it's hard to not see consciousness as a design flaw rather than an upgrade that sits at the root of the things driving climate change, e.g. hyperconsumerism, rampant use of non-renewable materials, and all the other things we choose into for personal satisfaction despite the negative impacts to the whole.

Might we have been better off without consciousness, or at least not as detrimental to the planet? I don't know.

Perhaps we survive, perhaps we don't. Frankly I don't believe it matters. We are no more intelligent then heard's of lemmings eating themselves into famine.

Not always. I have one I start at, and if they're unwilling to do the work, I call around until I get a reasonable option.

Drunk driving is already illegal. Doesn't seem like that rule stopped them. Why would this rule?

I've had my license suspended. It was just speeding. It's my only traffic ticket, let's not focus on that too much.

Do you know what was stopping me from getting in my car and driving it to work? Absolutely nothing.

I had a 200MB data plan until ~ 2018.

I had data turned off most of the time. At home and in the office I had WiFi. Loaded the map before I left home.

Most other places I was too busy doing whatever I was doing to use a phone. Since upgrading, I guess I can look products up in stores now. That's about it.

The ‘burbs truly are the worst of all worlds.

Some of the homes in my neighbourhood have 2 cars in the driveway and another two on the street.

They all move regularly. Walkability is terrible. Public transit is iffy. People have to get places on time.

Zoning changes: can't park inside, in front of the house, and on the street. This will address the problems you raised. Unlikely it will be passed.

Change these rules in hopes there are less cars? Or what?

Where will people put all the cars? The driveways holds 2, and really that’s only if you choose them wisely.

It is already illegal to park your car on the street for an extended period of time. Nobody cares.

Limit the number of vehicles owned by each address?

Fix public transit? Pipe dream. We’ve invested millions and it’s even worse.

The stores and plazas are already built, so walkability is unlikely to improve.

WFH? Actively being abolished.

We really suck at this civil planning thing, don’t we?

"I, uhh, need your thoughts." should have fewer consequences AND be more secure.

I’ve actually had half of my dryer outlet fail when half of the breaker failed.

Can confirm.

And you specifically have to request it. It isn’t a normal option during purchase.

Nah, with how ticketing is these days they'll bug you a dozen times to choose between the $50 basic economy disaster package that only has the mask and 50% airflow or the full package for $100 that includes another 25% airflow and a flotation device. Business execute gets you the parachute, a private life raft, and a few days of MREs for $250.

I wear a night guard and have had them made both ways.

The 3D camera was really neat. A little faster, and I didn’t once dry heave.

I could watch the software and a 3D model slowly form of my mouth. Looked surprisingly user friendly. Missed areas were highlighted, for example.

> A little faster, and I didn’t once dry heave.

Dry heaving would have been great. I would regularly vomit from impressions. My orthodontist would just prepare two sets if impression trays, cause the first one was going to go in the medical waste bin.

Impressions for invisilign (when I did it, about a million years ago) weren't so bad though. Unfortunately invisilign resulted in an open bite for my molars, which I really should go back to an orthodontist to address, but I'd rather not.

I also self host my own atuin server. It’s great.

I didn’t think syncing terminal history would be very useful until I tried it, but now I have a hard time when I don’t have it.

That was my experience. “Huh, what was that complicate thing I did on the database server?”

I have its search bound to ^r and use Fish shell’s own search for most things, with cross-machine search a keystroke away.
