The politically grandstanding is gross. From what I can tell E-IDS has been in development since at least 2020 with a planned rollout starting in 2025.

Yeah, AI has become the only source of information that once could be gotten with Google. For example, this FAA document: https://www.faa.gov/media/70881 which I found through chat gpt. When this well is poisoned too, not sure where things are going.
Way back when I used Pandora I found similar behavior if I gave songs thumbs down. It would converge on a small selection of a few artists and their music. It was really good at some genres if I didn't thumbs up or down many songs.
I've seen the same kind of thing in other services that weight recent choices as a part of their graph based recommendations like Spotify and YouTube. They can get stuck in a feedback loop where the pool of recommendations shrinks to the point where it recommends the same stuff over and over.
I mean sure, I agree with you in principal, but if not bailing out someone brings down the country or global economy? In a democracy that government is getting punished hard.
If the failure of a private company can bring down the country the government should either break it up or take it over immediately as a national security issue. Too big to fail means too big to exist.
The only reason this can happen is because of bailouts. When companies know they can be bailed out they will take far larger risks than they should. Instead governments should put policies and laws in place that prevent these types of problems from happening.
There's no obvious reason to reward people for failing. If it's necessary for the economy to not collapse, nationalize it, either wiping the shareholders out or paying the current (presumably low) price, and sell it later.
Well, in some ways that would mean the "running the government like a business" people would get their wish. They allowed the business to get so big, it failed, they are punished alongside the company for the failure.
Which is itself ironic as some of the most common hardware wallets have also had issues recently.
The idea that someone would have to buy a hardware wallet to be safe, but first audit the hardware and software is both a but ridiculous and infeasible. Unless one can actually inspect the code running on the device, auditing am open source library online doesn't tell you what is running on your device.
It's almost impossible to verify the code on the hardware wallet really matches the code they released and that the hardware has not been tampered with.
Maybe the sim card is on a timer to broadcast your keys after a year, so you just can't detect cellular signal usage now.
To securely own bitcoin you have to first create a new chip fabrication plant to then make your own hardware wallet.
Genuinely though, you're probably better off with an actually airgapped computer. Buy a $300 oldish dell or lenovo that you can slap ubuntu on to. Single purpose, no gaming, no email. If you keep it off the net, updates aren't needed. Sign transactions completely offline.
Keep the seed phrase safe. Use actual dice to generate it. Put a chunk of it into your wallet, a chunk into your password manager, a chunk in your attic or in a book, etc. Never type it into an internet connected computer.
Oh and, never tell anyone about how much crypto you have.
This is reasonably safe, and reasonably within the capabilities of a non cryptography nerd.
Anyone angry about DC water use should be much more angry about golf courses. They use far more water and often overuse pesticides that can run off and leach into ground water.
I tried fetching https://killai.now/archive using Claude chat to see how it would handle it but you've blocked them. If you want to poison you probably shouldn't block.
Well I was primarly targeting those that ignore robots.txt and claude is either being a good boy or cloudflare is enforcing my robots.txt, I need to check that. Thanks for letting me know though.
A while ago I tested questions about Tienanmen Square and Tank Man with various open Chinese LLMs and one or two closed ones, I think GLM 5.2. None of them refused to answer or blocked the keywords. They gave responses politically aligned with China. Abliterated models gave proper responses.
