I've seen some people say that since HDMI 2.2 recently released the HDMI forum doesn't care as much about "protecting" 2.1 anymore.

If FOSS drivers support HDMI 2.2 when devices start shipping with HDMI 2.2 ports then this'll be disproven, but the HDMI forum held off on allowing AMD to implement 2.1 support in their Linux drivers for years and only relented when they released HDMI 2.2. Valve with the Gabecube probably didn't have much to do with it considering how low volume it is.

It happens on MediaTek wifi adapter cards as well (and the AMD ones that are just rebadged MediaTek).

Intel only used the converters for 1st gen Arc dGPUs. Battlemage has native HDMI 2.1 and also ran into the same issues as AMD.

Wasn’t it the same with m1 macs, it also had a converter chip and did therefore only support hdmi 2.0.

Firefox has baked in adblocking (using adblock-rust, brave's built in adblocker), but it has to be enabled through about:config and not the settings UI.

Firefox started shipping adblock-rust in March (Brave's built in adblocker). It's not properly wired up in the UI yet but you can enable it and add filter lists in about:config.

I am cynical about this move - this could be used by them to cripple support for uBlock Origin eventually, to keep Google happy.

If they cripple support for uBlock Origin, there will be no more Firefox. That's a promise.

Clearly you just need to buy those team members some nice programming socks so they can finally enjoy rust.

IceFrog didn't create Dota, he took over maintenance of it from a long line of other people at the time, including Guinsoo (who added Roshan and the recipe system) who worked at Riot (though Icefrog was definitely the best maintainer, Dota was already hugely popular before Icefrog had anything to do with it).

Dota itself wasn't even original, it was based on a StarCraft 1 custom map.

The Starcraft map was called Aeon of Strife.

Dota was popular in its own niche and game was hugely imbalanced. IceFrog took it to somewhere so high above, saying "next level" is understating it.

That wasn't the point anyway.

There's nothing of significance in LoL vs the original DotA.

Same applies to DotA 2 btw. Valve is making changes for the sake of changes. Now every hero has a talent tree for example. Has the game become better because of that? I don't think so.

I bet if they did A/B when they rolled that update out, not a lot of people would have stayed on the new version.

As someone who has continuously played DOTA for the last 20+ years, I appreciate Valve keeping the game fresh. Sometimes they make changes that aren't so great, but the game is always evolving so it's fine. Despite that, even after all this time they've still managed to keep the spirit of the original WC3 mod.

As someone who continually played LoL, Valorant, and StarCraft 2 for long periods at different phases in life, I appreciate Blizzard keeping SC2 pretty much the same the most. I guess some people like change for the sake of change, but I just want to play and practice a given game. Just like chess and Melee have thrived without updates, I would much prefer my video games to not have frequent changes. I know I'm a minority in this regard. I'll come back to SC2 and counterstrike, but I'll never come back to LoL or Valorant because it's no longer the game I was playing.

But DOTA in particular, it was never just a "given game"; even from DOTA 1 they added heroes and items frequently. Adding heroes and items changes the game balance so it has to be continually rebalanced.

Yes, that's one of the reasons why I didn't play it. I probably would have switched over from LoL if it were more static.

Straight piped trucks can easily hit over 100dB (I've seen numbers as high as 118dB) which is well above the 85dB hearing damage level, and is at the level where hearing damage occurs in minutes or even seconds of exposure.

Sorry I don't want to get tinnitus just because some asshole wanted to make his truck "sound better".

360hz screens have been available for about 6 years now and you can get one for $200-300 now. ~500hz monitors have been widely available for ~3 years now, and in the last year we've had companies launching monitors with 720hz and soon 1000hz refresh rates (1000hz is needed to avoid persistence blur due to sample and hold display tech https://blurbusters.com/blur-busters-law-amazing-journey-to-...).

Annoyingly, on Firefox this is locked to 60fps on my 120hz display.

There really aren't very many different tip types available for airpods, since they use a special clip attachment method that means you can't use any standard existing tips. I've been looking for aftermarket tips for my pro 3s and there's maybe 5 actually different tips available (crappy foam, decent foam, bad hybrid, basic sticky silicone, basic bad rubber). They're distinctly lacking in good quality tips with different textures (can help with comfort and keeping them in your ears) or different bore sizes (comfort and changes the sound signature). TRI clarion, Tangzu Tang Sancai, Penon Liqueur, JVC Spiral Dot are a few different standard tips that would likely be way more comfortable than the standard airpods tips if you could actually use them.

Shoes are actually a great analogy here, because the companies all use different lasts, so it doesn't matter that eg. Adidas has thousands of different shoes in over a dozen sizes, none of them actually comfortably fit my feet because the heel is always too wide and the forefoot too narrow.

Also, they only come with 5 tip sizes (4+1 on the buds) and use an oval shape which I personally find less comfortable than circular tips+stems.
