yes but then spain is a big country (by european standards at least) : how many of those empty houses are in abandoned towns or towns that are halfway dying? here in italy we have similar figures but then all the jobs are in the bigger cities of the north, while the small province town dies with plenty of available housing.

This is valid. Though we are really bad accustomed to live in the exact same place we work, and this is BY FAR not the norm elsewhere.

The vast majority of people in the UK, for example, have long commutes by train. I have workmates that have 2.5 hours of commute each way, and while that is extreme, 45m to an hour is completely normal.

Translate that to Spain and your radius for an available house is immense.

There are 266 municipalities around Valencia, each municipality with several (some dozens) of towns, that you can reach by car in less than 60 minutes. In Madrid, there are 179 municipalities less than 60m away from the city.

Again, it would be fantastic if you could walk to work. But that is a massive privilege in large cities.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the social organisation of Italy won't be massively different, i.e, lots of small towns around a major city.

I still stand by my point. The housing crisis has nothing to do with immigration, and everything to do with rich people and corporations being allowed to speculate with a basic good.

Paraphrasing Gary Stevenson, if you allow wealth accumulation past a certain level where the wealth cannot be spent in normal things, the uberrich will start buying ALL the space. And that is exactly what we are living now.

hey i see what you did there. so funny

didnt he just shell out another extra 276 mil (accountable donations) and several other in non-accountable donations (allegedly)? he probably still pissed that peter thiel managed to place his man as vp for peanuts while he got the sack after only six months and 100mil spent. fun to watch caligula and his oligarch bidders taking apart the empire bit by bit.

Other than all the people dead, hungry and bankrupt yes, it sure is fun...

Oh, apropos Elon Musk:

It'd be fun if so many people weren't being hurt in the process. A part of me can empathize with the folks who are so disillusioned that they're willing to let the country burn, but we're all still in here...

america is a continent. let’s take back our vocabulary (fellow european here). the little orange man shows very well what i mean when he started giving names to the gulf of mexico.

"In English, North America is its own continent as is South America. The two can be collectively labeled the Americas or the Western hemisphere. Canadians frequently refer to themselves as North Americans and never as Americans. To insist this change is to demand the entire world’s lingua franca redefine words and thereby cause mass confusion for its speakers simply because doing so would be consistent with an arbitrary definition found in a foreign language."

south americans is how north americans refer to south americans though.

south americans just call themselves americans.

there arent all that many canadians; whats the need to index so hard on what we think?

I doubt many Spanish or Portuguese speakers refer to themselves in English.

Regardless, sure South Americans can absolutely call themselves Americano in the continental sense. But I know in Brazil for example "Americano" is casually understood to mean from the US, and in general South Americans are more likely to identify as argentino, brasileiro, chileno, colombiano, etc., or as sul-americano/sudamericano.

Most importantly, when speaking English, virtually all will avoid American for themselves because they know in English it means estadounidense.

It's also a country. Not sure what insisting we change our demonym accomplishes.

a simple ride on mower with a diy inter row disc (basically just a belt and pulley with a spring) may be enough. probably just get sonebody with a tractor and inter row disc weeder to do the job for you.

i has a similar moment when visiting a good friend that just moved back to romania after brexit and while sitting at a classy café, a well dressed guy approached my friend and started making a lot of melodramatic bowing and effusions and calling him with what was clearly a nickname. after he left, my friend simply said that they were homies on cs1.6, probably met in real life thanks to the cafes (i bet romania was a messed up place in early 00s). i felt a urge of envy, not so much for their skills in cs1.6 but because i totaly missed out on those early days of lan parties and internet multiplayer games with real freedom (i only played single player duke3d and other FPSs with my cousins as a kid, taking turns).

really enjoyed reading this, although I'm a dumb farmer and it took me a while to understand lol

played just for the lols. No kb shortcuts? hard to beat, nice

You can press "R" to restart the level, and "Esc" to pause.

happy about this since I still daily an iphone se 2016 (same form factor as the 5s but 6s internals) and about to change it's tiny battery and maybe get yet another iphone og se just in case this one stops working. abysmal battery life and tiny screen makes for the perfect dumb smartphone. aside from google search, the phone is virtually ai free (most of the ai and majroity of the social apps do require at least ios16 o 17), i do have to have an older android to use 'institutional' apps (meaning that there's a phone always at home with my banking and govt id apps). sent from the tiny screen of the SE

hate the game not the player
