Thanks for doing this Peter! I am an Indian national on H1-B with an active, non-withdrawn I-140 and a Priority Date of August 2016 from a previous employer. My current employer has an approved PERM, but their I-140 is still pending.

If the Dates for Filing (DFF) chart reaches my priority date, what is the latest viable timeline to return to my previous employer to file an I-485 based on their approved petition? Additionally, are there legal risks to joining after the date has already become current?

As long as your PD is current per the DFF chart in effect, then there's no date by which you must file your I-485. It's different if the Final Action chart were current. In that case, assuming it remained current, you would need to take I-485 or IV steps within one year. Of course, if you return to your current employer, it would need to be a bona fide job in the same/similar position.

Curious how you'd rank the 8 cities

Ooo that's a fun one. Sydney is an easy "all around" winner, but it really depends what stage of life you're in and how important career is. If you're career-oriented, then the list is:

Seattle > San Francisco > San Diego > Sydney > San Jose > LA > Honolulu > Portland

For your average person though who's prioritizing overall quality of life, the list would be:

Sydney > San Diego > Portland > Honolulu > Seattle > San Francisco > San Jose > LA

Each city has something distinct to offer, but I will say that LA was among my least favorite cities to live in. It's just a worse version of San Diego.

After reading "Why Nations Fail", which I really enjoyed, I wondered whether we could develop an LLM with a wide enough context window where I could input the lessons from such books along with data and metrics about a specific country. Then, the AI could prescribe tangible solutions and policy recommendations tailored to that nation's unique situation. I'm curious what an AI system like that might look like. I also wonder if it's possible to experiment with a smaller-scale version of this concept using today's technology.

I thought the Chicago School had already proved blindly applying "policy recommendations" from on high was a receipt for disaster and misery, but sure, let's do the same with AI, this time it will surely work.

What's the point? We generally know what economic policies work. But they aren't put into effect due to ideology or special interests. This isn't a problem with a technical solution.

Just something I noticed in the Language tokenization section

When referring to itself, it uses the female word in Marathi नमस्कार, माझे नाव जीपीटी-4o आहे| मी एक नवीन प्रकारची भाषा मॉडेल आहे| तुम्हाला भेटून आनंद झाला!

and Male word in Hindi नमस्ते, मेरा नाम जीपीटी-4o है। मैं एक नए प्रकार का भाषा मॉडल हूँ। आपसे मिलकर अच्छा लगा!

In my language (Romanian) it refers to itself as a male. Although if I address it as a female it responds as one.

Yeah, the pricing tiers make it all the more morbid and disconcerting. Scary future for sure.

I was looking for this comment. It is one of my favorite takes on how a simple program evolves to become the all controlling entity.
