I hope the author reconsiders recommending JOSM to beginners. iD, StreetComplete, MapComplete…almost anything except JOSM would have been a better starting point.

I don’t think you need to be taking “expert” photos to want some optical zoom.

I wish they’d put a zoom lens instead of a wide angle on the standard iPhone, but alas, you need a Pro for that.

The base iPhone’s digital som is pretty much perfect for its target audience, to be honest. These cameras are fantastic already, optical zoom is indeed a pro feature.

Unfortunately not gonna happen because if they introduced telephoto on base iPhone most people that buy Pros wouldn't buy Pros.

People say this, but seeing ads is very rare for me with AdGuard on Safari. I’ve no doubt that it’s technically less comprehensive than the best Firefox ad blockers, but in practice it feels more than “good enough” for me.

I imagine others feel the same?

For me I just enabled the built-in privacy feature and uBlock Origin. Haven't see any ads so far.

Only downside is I keep getting Google Recaptcha so I have to switch to DDG.

Unless you’re already familiar with it, OsmAnd’s interface is a complex and confusing mess. It does not “just work”.

CoMaps (and Organic Maps) aim to be much easier to use.

Agree! Just a heads up for folks that you’ll likely want to download the Welcome Suica app which is aimed at tourists.

The regular Suica app is separate and is not English-friendly (this may be worth it for you only if you’re staying long term, ok with the language barrier, and want a card that doesn’t expire).

Apple Wallet version is enough for 99% case. You do need the suica app for things like purchasing green car ticket etc.

I think the backlash isn’t necessarily against the decomp itself, but rather the sloppy/buggy PC ports that often come from it.

In my mind using an LLM to assist with decompiling is fine, as the output is provably correct. It either compiles to the original binary or it doesn’t.

Turning that into a playable PC game with controls that feel good, etc, is a different story. That requires human taste & judgement.

Yeah the problem isn't people using AI, it's the flood of lazy "native ports" that have no meaningful improvement over playing the game in an emulator and often crash or glitch out a level or two in because unsurprisingly a lot of the people who leave all the work to Claude don't feel like testing the game themselves. LLMs are a godsend for RE work when they're used properly, but a lot of these projects just waste everybody's time.

Similar story in Sydney, Australia. No shortage of Indian, Chinese, Korean, etc, grocery stores. Always fun to explore them and try something new.

Absolutely, can be abused. But there can be thousands of reviews of a pizza place, with text, surprising languages, slang, pictures... But only one description.
