The problem I have encountered is that some of the physics explanations are of dubious quality. A good example is the debate between Veratasium, Steve Mould, and ElectroBOOM about “whether electricity travels at the speed of light.” The Veratasium video comes across as pretty clickbait-y. That said, the combined narrative across these three channels was pretty interesting.

February 13 seems right to me. I mean it's not like LLMs need to manually write out a 10 page proof. But a longer deadline can give human mathematicians time to solve the problem and write out a proof. A close deadline advantages the LLM and disadvantages humans which should be the goal if we want to see if LLMs are able to solve these.

Fixing the seed wouldn't necessarily make LLMs deterministic. LLMs do lots of computation in parallel and the order in which these computations are performed is often indeterministic and can lead to different final results.
Yep. And to answer the question about randomness - it's absolutely vital to have a good source of noise to obscure the underlying pattern to prevent the secret information leaking - but the mathematical part that manipulates that noise into the encrypted output has to be precise. That's the distinction made here relating to probability.
