If Astra is per benchmarks so much more token efficient than Sol, why did they limit its use in ChatGPT to ~16% as many messages compare to Sol? When Sol is 40% the price of Astra, why do they give Sol Pro (in ChatGPT) 6x as many tasks?
If it were strictly true that token efficiency makes Astra cost around the same per task as Sol then there'd be no need to limit it to 16% as much access.
It's because per-task token use is highly variable, not as universally true as you claim

The GLP-1 drugs are probably the main cause of this. We have this amazing class of compounds that work really well, But are priced pretty high, at least considering lower UK wages.
So there is a big incentive to look at getting these much cheaper from China. You hear about this happening, and then you see the fact that these companies have big catalogues full of other peptides that are a crypto payment and a click away.
I strongly suspect that peptide use is more common amongst the botox/filler crowd than techies in the UK. Most aesthetics clinics have been pushing peptide-based skincare for years, so it was only a small step into injectables for them.
And, as you say, the gym performance / sports crowd.
The BBC and the Guardian have covered it fairly neutrally, but the likes of the Daily Mail and gossip mags have been both more frequent and more breathless.
Not just clinics, but mainstream skincare and cosmetics companies have been doing topical peptide products for the past 10 years. You can get a peptide serum from a drugstore for ~$30.

I've seen some articles on some data centres that were very loud because of gas turbines, but realistically, what percentage is that? Surely, I would assume it must be a minority, and it just seems like the state failing to actually follow reasonable laws around noise levels.
The US getting better power infrastructure and more energy seems like a long-term good thing. They've underinvested in it for a long time.

Precisely, if we expect AI/LLM progress to continue as it currently is, then data centers seem like a sure fire bet. They will just print money if AI reached that level.
Sure you can build a data center near me, if your going to fund a new swimming pool and library with the taxes you pay. Also I get reduced local taxes? Even better!
Infrastructure building would be a whole lot easier, if people could directly tie it to tangible benefits.
It would be great if it worked that way, with the people living nearby getting concrete benefits from the new data center. Instead, they typically just see an increase in their utility bills.
If you think bribes are at all going to the constituents, you don't understand what a bribe is. This is a very different thing from them paying taxes back into the city.

The claims aren't bullshit. Every conceivable benchmark and test you can throw at it shows Sol being good for token efficiency.
