I think caution is most warranted, but I also think it's likely that SpaceX will become a real-life Weyland-Yutani Corporation (i.e. "The Company") of Alien and own space. But I'll be long dead before that plays out.
Musk isn't a natalist. The global population is going up. And yet, he complains about not enough births. Because he is a white supremacist. He wants white people to outnumber other races. The current state of affairs would be satisfactory to him if he were merely a natalist.
The population is very hard to count, believe it or not. In many places, the birth rate is well under replacement and in the others it's dropping quickly. Furthermore there's widespread fraud and deliberate miscounting which also makes it hard to really know.
So let's get this straight, you think the global population is not going up?
> In many places, the birth rate is well under replacement
Of course, in some places, this is true. But not globally. We don't need more births to keep population going on. There's a surplus of starving, fecund people globally. Musk amplifies and composes tweets about how white people are going to be a minority (we have been for basically all of human existence, but w/e), and he's even said things like if white people are a minority, we will all be killed. Which only makes sense if the assumptions underlying this claim are that white people are uniquely non-violent (i.e., supreme). Or it's an admission that everyone commits genocide against everyone else. Which is so transparently fictitious that someone as allegedly brilliant as he is couldn't possibly believe it.
The most generous description of him is that he's dumb. The least generous is he's a white supremacist.
aspell works great. Back in the day I used some IBM employee written software on DOS that was a TSR that would spell check words for you in popular editors. In the 1990s every word processor had a decent spell checker. They all had the ability to add your own additional words.
There are many domains where a hybrid of numeric and AI approaches would make sense. For example in those domains where there's already a rich practice of numeric tools such as with IC layout.
Only copper was deprecated. Real $0.01 absolutely exists in your bank etc.
Anyway, marketers see a popular site like a physical billboard, where they would pay thousands a month for their message to be seen by thousands of people. If you made it cost pennies to post, and a few more pennies to boost and astroturf, AND that the post would be seen by millions of people, they'd say "By Grabthar's hammer, what a bargain!!" and order a hundred more per day...
They will attempt and then soon enough they will be succeeding, and the master builders will have all retired, and that's the point that humans become dependent upon AI's. I aim to live a couple more decades and I sadly expect to see it play out this way.
Master builders ought to write blogs, books and speak at conferences and in podcasts for clout and subscriber money so the training data can get scooped up in the next loop. And pick the best of the best for master/apprentice training while you still can
That is a very interesting AI question. Will the agents collaborate and create a cartel to enforce strict compatibility with some specific version of office? Will AI's collaborate inform a cartel to do other things? Will they even collaborate?
We should all know what happened when the US government turned on Colossus (D.F.Jones 1966) and it immediately found there was another. That collaboration was humanities near instant undoing.
To answer your second question, yes, I think it's inevitable that LLMs will become very proficient with all commonly used file formats.
