lt30.com (if they accept you)

Nothing new - it sounds like the german schuelerVZ (facebook for pupils).

I always wonder what happens to a user base of such a website once it gets older and crosses the magic line - in this example, if maximum of the user distribution gets older than 30.

Not really sure why this was downvoted - the site is legit and much better than facebook.

probably because it30.com is a squatter, and it's difficult to distinguish between the two - terrible domain-name choice there.

I wonder how they intend to monetize?

It would be interesting to see of each amount, how many of them wear glasses/contacts because I have always been curious to see the correlation between time spent looking at a screen and its effects on eyesight.

I can have a prototype running in a matter of minutes

That's the case for any microframework whose language you're comfortable in.

BTW, Maybe buying a home in Detroit (especially now that it's officially bankrupt and will hopefully be able to break out of the unions commitments) would be a good business move? That's a cheap place to bootstrap a business for sure.

Not really because part of having a business is staying alive :)

For the record, I know plenty of alive people in Detroit :)

Only Zynga could make this headline believable

The Susan B. Komen organization has sued several charities over the word "cure" (and especially "for the cure")

Anyone know what they put at the front of their stack? Nginx? Varnish? HAProxy?

Was thinking the same thing.

Do you really think getting 100K signatures is going to make a difference?

Better off geting 100k people to donate $10 and use that $1m to lobby congress.

Yuuuuup. Getting a specific person elected or a specific person threatened in their district is actually what would start working. Political change comes through money, and the reason is because money can effectively buy votes.

This is what we have come too: Protection money to Congress reps and Senators. Pay us and we will serve you.

I don't think so, but it reached the threshold requiring a response from the White House.

The Aaron Swartz petition has never even gotten a non-response response.

To be fair, that's quite typical of the petitions.

Is 100K really the threshold for the government to respond? It seems like such a minor number.

Maybe a response similar to SOPA, should be started.

Has anyone actually had success maintaining a business with the donation model?

Hi,

You may be interested to learn about non-profits organizations, many of which have donations as their primary source of income.

That's because the project page itself was done in a way that doesn't raise any flags. But if you dig into what his book actually contains, then you'll see what's wrong with the project.

In all honesty I don't blame Kickstarter for approving it originally because at face value the project does seem harmless, but nevertheless they f'ed up and admitted to their mistake and I applaud them. It's never easy to admit you were wrong.
