Specifically about custom CUDA kernels, I’ve implemented them with AI that significantly sped up the code in this project I worked on. Didn’t know how to code these kernels at all, but I implemented and tested a couple of variations and got it running fast in just two days. Basically impossible for me before AI coding (well not impossible but it would have taken me many weeks, so I wouldn’t have tried it).

It depends on the experiment done… You need every intermediate point between the wires to be low distortion too. As in, audiophiles cannot distinguish between distortion and distortion+distortion is not really an interesting result.

You need source, digital to analog conversion, pre-amp, amp, speakers to have low distortion too, and you need the room to be appropriately treated too. I didn’t look at whether they did all that but I seriously doubt they did.

Did you really mean to say that audiophiles can distinguish between no distortion and some distortion, but cannot distinguish between more distortion and less distortion?

That's how sound works in general. Even doubling is only +3dB.

Same goes for TVs too. That’s clearly not the reason why house prices rose so drastically.

But where’s the growth?

Huh so weird, companies never do that.

> companies never do that

You must be a company.

What even is this? People will say what they will say when they listen to it. It’s not like you are complaining to the kids.

That doesn't really matter if something like more than 95% of time it's followed. Compared to now where there is nothing.

Same with gui. I’m making a web gui that’s very specific for a project that I’m working on. My team finds it very useful but I would never make that thing without AI assistance, combination of I don’t find it interesting or fun, would take too long, I am not familiar with web gui stuff.

Claude code makes react + tailwindcss + whatever component library actually bearable for me. I can just “make a navbar on the left hand side of the screen like vscode has” and it mostly does it, a few tweaks and I have what I want. I waste so much time on that stuff doing it by hand it drives me crazy.

Also “pull records from table X and display them in a data grid. Include a “New” button and associated functionality respecting column constraints in the database. Also add an edit and delete button for each row in the table”. God, it’s really nice to have an LLM get that 85% of the way done in maybe 2 min.

Have you never lived in a suburban house? I would never want a store to be next to any of the houses I lived in. It would completely ruin that environment. Conservative viewpoint or not, house prices or whatever, it is very aesthetically displeasing to me.

Whenever someone mentions Asian elephants in American zoos, I remember my visit to Columbus zoo, where they treated the Asian elephants like African elephants. Very dry environment, very little water, feeding them dry hay, just absolutely atrocious treatment.
