Other than having abysmal inconsistencies in their UI, ive never had any problems with the native Spotify app. I've been using Spotify for 10 years now and when im on my PC i open the app, either put my Podcast or song and then minimize it. Didnt know people had such issues with the app.
I still use it because over the years, all my IRL clubs and hobbies moved away from forums and sites to it.
Using it has very little impact on me, and allows to continue participating in IRL activities and clubs I’ve been a member of for years.
If they all pack up and move somewhere else, I’ll move as well, if not, I won’t.
I don’t use it for any purpose outside of engaging with those communities and I’m not going to give up my social life to make a statement, I don’t care enough.
I check it once a month or three. Boomer relatives still use it and so it's nice to see their updates once in a while. I've also heard good things about Marketplace, but don't use it myself because I fear my lame would-be for sale posts would end up on friends' feeds and it would be mortifying if people I know in real life thought I used Facebook.
Just to add onto this; Instagram purposely floats controversial comments to the top of a comment section for "engagement" purposes. I've seen this many times.
I've noticed that when my partner and I look at the same Instagram post (within a few minutes of each other), we get completely different "top" comments. I suspect Instagram is ordering the comments individually for each user to maximize engagement.
All social media is drifting towards being a mirror that reflects your worst tendencies back at you. No content restrictions will fix this - the whole personalized approach to media is fundamentally rotten.
