I struggle with getting exertion headaches whenever my heart rate goes over 170 bpm for more than a minute or two. It's incredibly frustrating to have to hold back and moderate my physical activity, knowing that if I don't I'll have a rather debilitating headache for the rest of the day and potentially into the next day.

I do get a lot of exercise, but I keep it in the lower zones to avoid this complication and I still feel like I get such a great mood boost and improvements to my cognitive abilities wrt to work.

I would pay a subscription fee if only to get back SMS capabilities.

Anchorage, Finoa, Copper, Gemini, Coinbase Custody, Fidelity...the list goes on.

Circle and Paxos are big players in custody, too.

Just ask P. T. Barnum.

The funny thing is that when the trustee pays out the remaining BTC from Mt. Gox back to creditors, you're going to have some massive gains.

I completely forgot about that and just read that they have 192,000 bitcoins in the trustee. Wow

I occasionally kick myself for buying weed using bitcoin like it's intended purpose in those days. I had quite a bit. lol.

I got a really sweet carbon fiber bicycle from the coins I mined. Figured there was no way they'd ever go higher than 20$ and it was basically free money. Looking back, sure, I could have retired on that sum if I'd held it, but at the time, I had no reasonable expectation that it would be anything but a fad.

Won a few races on that bike, and met my wife on the race team. Net win.

"Sometimes, not often, but sometimes I wish my wife was still Bitcoin."

Gives a new meaning to "wife changing gains".

What's the internet situation like? I hears Starlink for boats is coming but costs an arm and a leg...

Near shore, LTE hotspots and/or Starlink RV are feasible options (or, in a marina, there's often marina and/or municipal WiFi around)

I imagine the response rate to this AMA is telling of the reliability

Canals, I use 4G for everything. Do market research and find the best provider. It's difficult but not impossible to web dev.

Kraken has a few thousand employees, has been a remote first company for a decade, and pays the same no matter where you live.

Kraken operates in over 60 countries (according to their website). They pay the same amount across all those territories, including benefits etc.? I find that hard to believe.

For engineering/product etc. that's the case. Doesn't matter if you move from San Francisco to Thailand or some other low cost of living area, your pay remains the same.

Not cutting someone's pay when they move is very different to hiring someone in Thailand on a Bay Area salary.

Why? If both do the same work in the same location, why would one get more than the other.

Either you don't adjust the pay when they move because you are already paying everyone an equal salary. Or you adjust it and pay everyone a local salary.

Gitlab does the latter.

If both do the same work in the same location, why would one get more than the other.

I totally agree. But kirbypineapple's point was about someone's salary not being cut when they move. That's much less interesting than someone in Thailand getting the Bay Area salary when they're hired.

If Kraken pays the same salary for a role regardless of location when they're hiring then that's awesome. I would find that incredibly surprising though, if only because advertising a role on 50* the typical local salary would make hiring really hard because you'd be swamped with low quality applications.

Gitlab just outsources development. It’s that simple.

Why? Because that’s how basic market forces work.

Kraken's offers are not affected by geography in any way. The are engineering salary bands are completely agnostic of region.

Isn't Kraken part of the crypto game? Not sure they can be compared to more mature businesses. Are they paying their employees in tokens?

Ah, so this wasn't gitkraken that was meant, then?

Damn! You just made me spit out my drink!

That's as flimsy a strawman as you could find.

The only thing that comes to mind here is that there was a fee spike [1] and they've got too many unspents stuck in the mempool and can't initiate further withdrawals because their wallet is effectively "spent" until those pending transactions complete and they receive their change. I find this a bit hard to believe though...wallet management isn't simple when it comes to the scale that Binance handles, however I'd be shocked if they didn't have code written to trigger CPFP (Child Pays For Parent) [2].

I can think of many of exchanges pausing withdrawals in times of extreme volatility - either close to peaks or during massive selloffs.

I think Binance probably doesn't have enough liquidity to cover their withdrawals and you probably don't need to look much farther to find an explanation.

Bitcoin alone is worth over 1T, so your statement that all of crypto is worth less than 1T is a bit silly. The goal posts keep moving for crypto...next year it'll be that crypto is worth less than 5T, etc.

I looked at the NYSE daily volumes...unless I'm reading them wrong, they did $800m USD worth of trades today. Coinbase did $5b USD worth of trades today. So if you compare a company that's almost 200 years olds volume against a 9 year old company, and find that the startup is doing more than 5 times the volume of the incumbent (with zero lock in, since clients are free to trade cryptos on any exchange), then I'd say your comparison is actually a ringing endorsement for Coinbase.

You are reading them wrong. The NYSE traded 971 million shares of stock today worth $51 billion. That's just the NYSE, too. ARCA and ICE are owned by them as well.

"I looked at the NYSE daily volumes...unless I'm reading them wrong, they did $800m USD worth of trades today"

You are orders of magnitude off here. If you really think the stock market is that small you probably shouldn't be here commenting about it

FWIW, I think that total of $800m is purely stock trades and not the sum total of money moving through NYSE. According to wikipedia they were moving $130bn in 2013.

I took my first stab at designing and having my own PCB manufactured for a mechanical clock I'm trying to build. At the moment I'm currently stuck trying to debug the 7 x MCP23017 devices on my I2C bus. I picked up an oscilliscope and added a level converted between the RPi and my PCB, but I feel pretty lost as I'm a complete novice and have no formal background in electronics. This article provides a lot of useful information for someone like me! Online all you usually get are single MCP23017 implementations, nothing too complex.

The MCP23017 is a fun device. I remember designing a board with too much of them (>20 IIRC).
