https://fosscomics.com/posts/12.%20BSD%20Unix%20Part%202%20-... — “Coding's a lot more fun in visual mode.”

Coding in visual mode would be no fun at all on a Tek 4014¹. It's a vector storage tube and can't selectively remove characters from the screen.

Should have drawn an ADM-3A².

GNU reimplementations showed up late enough not to care about running in a 64K address space.

>Is macOS UX actually well thought out to begin with?

To begin with, yes. The decline only started around ten years ago.

It's not the finger, it's the arm. Remember light pens?

Amazon chose for itself a reputation as a place that nobody with a choice will work. I'm pleased to see that pay off.

That's a lot of "nobody"

Not an employee, just have a "shit ton" of Amazon stock that has been beating inflation very well. The last few quarters of volatility has allowed me to buy and sell, often fully covering my monthly expenses. I'm very greatful for that. Far from a company "nobody" wants to work for. You have a better performing company than Amazon to recommend that I can use instead? I'm all ears and I'll even give you a kickback for your time!

ask any of those nobodies if they would rather work somewhere else instead lol

I’m on my seventh year at AWS now. I have a lot of friends that have been in AWS for 10+ years. If any of us would have wanted to leave we would have.

are those Amazon Web Services coders? AI experts?

or are they warehouse and package monkeys and logistics?

800k warehouse workers doesn't mean shit w/r/t AI development

From the README, this is a collection of names, not a prescriptive proposal for definitive names. Walk over to your local hardware store's paint section and you'll see the same hundreds of names for off-white variations.

Still dark for me (Firefox 158.0 on Linux)

Hypothesis: Weighted to the postwar western fashion of amplifying Enlightenment self-critique into self-sabotage. What if you ask the same question in Mandarin?

I tried it with Gemini, and essentially the answer translated back to English is that "free will is just a carbon-based algorithm."

My local Qwen model complains that humans are "chronically bad at distinguishing between problems that need fixing and noise that will settle."

At least it's not emo.

> At least it's not emo.

Huh, that answer reads like a weighted average sentence from someone's live journal circa 2001. Definitely emo!
