Want to hijack this someone made experience recently with https://ducklake.select/ ? We need to setup a warehouse soon and this looks enticing.

What I don't understand is why they didn't build this project on top of DuckLake instead - from my shallow analysis they vibe coded up a fake Databricks in Python.

Not that I'd use it, I want to avoid Databricks - the Duck ecosystem is far more compelling for my modest needs, and handles local develop a lot better (IMO).

Ducklake works well. So far it is still under active development (post AWS acquisition). There is support for local disk-based and remote S3 based datalakes, so integration tests become really easy. Seems stable and all the bugs I've found have already been patched.

Any risks in terms of using it on gcp/azure?

Praying for the poor Ducklake employees at AWS to keep whatever demon works there at bay who insists that every single data product has to be bolted onto AWS Glue (and its various Data Catalog, Data Lake, etc. partners in crime) in the most clumsy way possible. And please keep it away from Athena, possibly the worst major query engine in terms of support for query features and file formats. I don't want to see AWS-era Ducklake become another failure like S3 Table Buckets are (imo at least).

I'd personally love to try this in earnest as well

so cool! Loved sup com

man i played so much supcom every time we played at like 2fps in the end haha

What’s the best way to get this hosted with eu residency?

Lobby Ursula to fund an EU-CN collaboration lab and buy Ascends?

Also just want to let my appreciation here for 3.7 it’s cheap super fast super reliable incredible at information parsing eu host able (important for us) and perfectly integrated into gcp. Great job google!

I hope they bring a lite version, its good enough for information parsing and very cheap.

Use Luna for that

I don’t get it we are paying at least hundreds or maybe thousands per month on ai costs. Just get a regular vm ?

You absolutely can run agents on a regular VM. But if you want to build multi-tenant and multi-agent systems with strong security boundaries, then having a VM or MicroVM per agent session (or session with a group of agents) really simplifies things.

When we did AWS AgentCore Runtime last year we introduced session isolation, with MicroVMs per session. You can think of Lambda MicroVMs as the same stack, but generalized to fit a larger number of application patterns.

why use agentcore runtime then

You don’t have to pay that much. I did pay a couple hundred for a while, but not since I switched to Chinese models along with a $20 ChatGPT subscription.

Also, a single VM is pretty limiting.

Isn’t the point that you wanna be able to spin up and down thousands of VM:s on demand (literally a VM just to run a tool and then shut it down until the next tool call)

Sadly I think the correlation between this benchmark and performance is starting to break down imo. Still a legendary idea will be remembered and ingrained in the models forever haha

Honestly happy he’s back at a foundation lab. He will have insane impact there. Of course one of the best educators in the world it’s a bit sad he gave up building and education tool.

Ai in my mind is a new primitive of computing, like compute a db blob storage.

There is a great recent episode of latent space about a similar topic it’s worth a watch even with the click baiti thumbnail and title https://youtu.be/9d899Ram9Bs?is=pQMoVmlWVsTNKfRK
