That time was also when people could just add useful information to articles without some self-declared gatekeeper/“curator” removing everything they cannot grasp or simply deem uninteresting again.
But my attempts to make him a page on English Wikipedia keep getting rejected -- failed to establish notability. The fact that he won some awards and kids read his stories on the other side of the planet is apparently not good enough for Wikipedia.
Looks like your drafts didn't have much in the way of sources. Someone else did a complete rewrite in September with additional sources to establish notability.
This is true. I think the problem has changed but it still there. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think it’s a reliable academic source. I just think it’s ironic that an academic is saying it’s a moral duty to protect it.
FDA trials follow this approach. If something bad happens it’s logged as an adverse event; if they croak it’s a serious adverse event (SAE).
So if you have a treatment for moles, and a patient (trial participant) has a mole on their back treated and then falls down the stairs or is run over by a trolley the agency wants you to do an analysis to see if the treatment might have had something to do with getting run over or not taking the lift.
Note: this is not an exaggeration. I have written phase I and phase II clinical trial protocols earlier in my career.
OSM editor Go Map!! also has a "Quests" overlay that is very similar to Street Complete (even uses the same icons). And you can also define custom quests for data you want to easily gather.
However, it's lacking the nice example pictures for each option - so, with Go Map!! you need to know what you're doing.
Or the EU with their online chat control. First round they couldn’t get a majority. Then, they sneakily turned it around so people had to vote to NOT want it. The day they did the second vote, many were on holiday and thus it passed.
Twitter has the “Following” tab that only shows stuff from the accounts you’re following. Facebook has something similar, just a bit more hidden.
But IMHO the bigger problem is that people became less social in general. I remember those fearmongering messages doing rounds which made people lock up their profiles and not post anything about their holidays as burglars could use that information to break into their houses.
Then there’s this thing where most people try to craft this perfect online presence with only carefully (and often heavily edited) photos and nothing too personal.
And in general, people seem to be much less open than “back in the early days”. Say “Hi!” to someone in the wrong mood and you’ll just get insta-blocked. Everybody is just caressing their profile but don’t want to have anything to do with the “social” part of the social network. Well, apart from collecting likes.
