Maybe certain demographics of people live near Costcos, and they're the kind that due to income have poorer diets or are more exposed to pollutants...

Meanwhile I'd guess around Harvard the population would be richer. Hypothesis: Being rich and being able to survive to old age also means a higher chance of cancer to be the thing that offs you.

I've had 11 months of 1 year of a free Google AI Pro plan because I bought a Pixel phone. I've liked the speed and intelligence, I wonder what it'll feel like when I return to not wanting to pay a monthly fee to an enabler of genocide..

That "for free" link isn't accurate at all, it claims you have to compile Deskflow yourself, but on Deskflow's Github they offer binary releases.

I don't remember why Barrier was forked from Deskflow, but I've been using Barrier for many many years now. Now that I think of it, I do notice bugs, that maybe I should try out a new version to see if there are life improvements. E.g. with keyboard layouts, even when both systems are running Windows, the target system can be confused what character it should be outputing; and I need to hit "reload" to reconnect after returning one or both systems from standby, sometimes clipboard sharing also breaks.

Barrier was forked from Synergy many years ago

Deskflow is just the open source version of Synergy (sans branding) released by Symless.

The weird layout bugs are because of the way it all works behind the scenes. Non-control characters are sent as characters (not key codes) over the wire and then mapped back to local key codes on the receiving side.

From this exact blurb:

> We estimate an implied leakage ...

So the estimation became almost a fact in the title? What's the equivalent of clickbait in papers?

The rest of that sentence:

> ... of 2 to 6 cents per aid dollar, which amounts to roughly 1.7 to 4.4 billion dollars of aid diversion across the tranche arrivals we study.

This submission is not following HN news for submission titles.

This isn't a clickbait in the paper, but by the submitter.

Why does literally every single item on Hackernews have some replyguy screaming about clickbait? Is there therapy for that? Do you understand how headlines work? What part of 2 to 6 looks like "not an estimation"?

Edit: HN title used to be "Around 2-6% of World Bank foreign aid got siphoned into crypto wallets"

Original post: While you're being rude and it would be worth cutting the first half of your comment, that's a good point that "2-6%" is still clearly an estimation.

Hah, the video is more exciting than the readme, IMO an image of the robot in the readme would be attention-getting.

Would "rear view mirrors" help navigation in the suit? So 2 extra displays that would give you a view of what's over your shoulder, like on some cars nowadays (for example): https://www.carscoops.com/2022/02/heres-what-you-wanted-to-k...

The setup I bought only has one camera but the AMT supports up to 3 separate composite sources (I did not add switching to the library yet b/c I couldn’t test this). It looks like split-screen is supported also. For now, I am adding some simple sensors to the back of the suit and triggering an on-screen pop-up when something is behind me

Hm. Have you thought about using a backup camera? =)

Holy smokes I like that. Maybe it will catch on, I dunno.

Cameras are rear view mirrors? Audi e-trons have them, they're also available as option on Hyundai Ioniqs. But apparently it's unlawful to not have physical side mirrors in North America...

High oil price -> Iran war -> who started that? -> can we ask them for compensation?

Refugee crisis -> Middle East chaos -> Let's look back 20 years and see who decided to go into Iraq with a giant force of incompetence (or as that fuckwit said "Unknown unknowns") and created insurgent forces that grew into ISIS, etc? -> Can we ask them for compensation?

When grandparent said "The rest of the world has to pay", I don't think they'd disagree with the 2 above examples...

> I don't think they'd disagree with the 2 above examples...

I think that is very easy.

"If Muslims get their nuclear weapon (chemical weapon, Jerusalem, that particular abandoned piece of desert, any other random crap, choose whatever you like) they WILL DESTROY THE WORLD. How we can see, the world is still existing. So compensation? That would be pretty nice of them, we are ready to start getting compensation at any moment".

Gotta love an article about video compression where the top image is a blurry downscaled-and-then-upscaled image, that's not even clickable to zoom.

Yes, if you scroll down the image is there again, still a bit blurry (so much winning), but clickable to embiggen. Your CMS is giving everyone a terrible first impression!

I wonder which of the hegemonies a Palestinian would prefer: the (Israel-influenced) US one, the Chinese one, or the Russian one.

Maybe each citizen of the world can have a vote. To make it fair, 1 US dollar of assets is one vote!

I do not support the US's support for Israel. I also do not support Russia's support for Iran or China's support for North Korea.

Hopefully we get a 2029 president who completely alters the alliance with Israel and makes further close association contingent on many serious changes in how they handle Gaza, the West Bank, and prosecution of terrorists and war criminals.

Ah yeah, one side starved and bombarded civilians for years, cut off their water and food. But only the side that unleashed a day of savage terrorism is the "barbaric" one.

Funny how plenty of people still think if someone defends the barbarism of Hamas (which I'm not doing), this person should be lynched, but if another person defends the barbarism of the Netanyahu regime, it's fine, because (insert justifications here)... What the fuck's the difference?

>a day of savage terrorism

This has the tone of "a few minutes of action": https://www.espn.co.uk/college-sports/story/_/id/15997412/br...

What's good for the goose is good for the gander, don't you think? That "day of savage terrorism" flowed the other way every single day both before and after 7/10/2023.

Israel, madam.

And so what, yes the Egyptians closed the border, does that mean you consider it fine for Israel to do those things, and they can escape being labelled of "barbaric war criminals", because... why? Because Egypt?

It's like an abusive father beating his kids, and when the neighbor doesn't want to have the burden of taking care of the kids for the foreseeable future (because the police/government clearly prefers to pretend "everything is fine"), you say "Well, it's the neighbor's fault those kids are getting beat up!".

Well, your reply to my reply is flagged to death, so you can see how the "community" here thinks how sane you sound...

You wrote:

> Well, the day I see you protesting against Egypt and blaming them for the situation in Gaza I might consider respecting you more.

This is like saying "The day I see you agreeing that the world is flat I might consider respecting you more". Hah, a hardcode defender of the mass killing might respect me? Thanks, I don't need any of that. Yes, arguing with you is like arguing with a flat-earther or a 9/11 truther, nothing will ever convince you that your views are deranged and so far from the truth. You can easily comfort yourself in your own "tower of ego-defense" by dismissing any argument as having the basis of antisemitism. Just like 9/11-truthers would rather deny reality rather than accept that they've been misled so deep into a rabbit hole, because admitting they're wrong would be admitting that they've been dumb for some 20-plus years.

Of course, I'm aware my arguments won't get anywhere; if a Genocide-supporter told me I was acting like a flat-earther, I'd also return to the "facts" that I know and conclude "What a dumb deranged fuckwit".

Now we're just going in circles (because you'd rather just rely on repetition rather than rethink your position, rethinking would let in doubt about how solid your arguments are). And if one side commited a genocide (or bombing and starving civilians for, hmm, wow, 2 years minus 1 week now), how much is the price to pay? Of course you believe "a genocide is justified when the other side starts a war" and "it's Egypt's fault that a genocide is happening", and I can also circularly refer to my comment.

"Because they (Hamas) started it!", is the justification you'll scream. It'd be like burning your neighbor's house down because you hated each other and he smeared dogshit all over your porch. In a lawful country, would that get you sent to a court, and would the judge let you go with the argument "he started it"?
