A classic, if slightly dated in some chapters, books on ml.

For something recent, I really enjoy Amazon’s interactive explain articles on machine learning:

It’s nice to see the computational medium for education change with the times.

The context:

“I was asked at a dinner by a student whether I thought a classmate of hers should have been suspended for a video she had made as a 12-year-old in which she used a racial slur. To understand what was in the video, I asked if she had called someone else the slur or whether she was rapping or quoting a book title. In asking the question, I used the slur itself,” McNeil said in his note to the staff. “I should not have done that. Originally, I thought the context in which I used this ugly word could be defended. I now realize that it cannot. It is deeply offensive and hurtful. The fact that I even thought I could defend it itself showed extraordinarily bad judgment. For that I apologize.”

Can’t believe an entire career was ended over a moment requesting clarification.

So much for intent.

How I dream of a future language with the power of rust, ease of python, and the ability to work in a browser.

Sounds not far from https://nim-lang.org/

Rustonscript :-)

I’ve wondered this as well, though I suppose many countries use a police force armed with just batons (but combat training I’d assume).

Sounds like a prank. Do you know the range of the Bluetooth on Alexa? Does your living situation allow for that range to be accessible from those outside your house?

Have you been to your local library lately? I was spurred to sign up from a post I saw on here, and it’s actually surprising how good the quality of content is. Plus I save a ton of money on purchasing books AND support the community. Definitely check it out if you haven’t!

For anyone unfamiliar with borrowing ebooks and audiobooks from U.S. libraries which use Libby (aka Overdrive) this is a wonderful blog post explaining how to get started. It's even easier than it looks and has saved me hundreds of dollars at this point - I highly recommend it!

Indeed I do use my local library. I mostly borrow eBooks, and sometimes physical books and rarely DVDs. I also use my library to escape my home office for a different place to put my head down and work.

What’s the deal with the legality of dui checkpoints in NY? I understand that they’re technically unconstitutional, but in California they’re ok because we’re in a certain distance of the border l.

It’s an interesting idea. I think the main concern is time frame? I think instead of asking one Question each, it’s better to work on the same question together.

Yes, this is clearly a tradeoff in the approach in that 2-way interviews have the potential to be extended, could even take twice as long. Working on a question/problem together is a great way to establish a working relationship from the start. If it goes really well, we'll always remember it. You gain insights into my thinking process, and I hear yours. This, as opposed to me just asking you questions one-way. For this to work though, maybe a short initial meeting to get to know each other on some basic level and to set the stage for the exercise would be a great way to start.

Ever had the opportunity to try this approach in some way? If so, how did things go?

Everything should be done in balance.
