Outing myself as a parent of young kids here, but I have been genuinely surprised how good Hypershot on Roblox is. It reminds me of Unreal Tournament a lot and is really easy to play, I've been hooked for a few weeks. It cuts everything down to the basics like UT without all the bells and whistles modern AAA games have. Oh and it's totally free (but with all the monetization attempts Roblox games tend to have, though they aren't necessary to play even at a high level).
Agreed! It’d be nice to surface that somehow. The subreddit is good but not everyone is there. I found a lot of interesting people and code in the folks who managed to finish challenges in like 4 minutes or whatever..
That isn't quite true, because the law was enacted on October 26, 2023, which was still the same party that drafted it.
Of course, it is true that it is being supported by the current government, however the only way a future government could have avoided the law coming into force would be to repeal it with a new act of parliament (because it was already enacted).
This little "solution" might be fine for .. imgur .. but it shows your nation is well into the authoritarian descent. And there's no where left in the western world to move to either ... It's not a slippery slope, it's a landslide.
Polls don't handle nuance, though. Most people would support "children not watching hardcore porn", but most wouldn't support "not allowed to access imgur anymore". The polls don't ask those kinds of question, though, they ask "do you support the OSA", to which the only reasonable answer is "yes and no".
Unfortunately we've had endless waves of botnets attempting to subscribe thousands of fake email addresses to us over the years, and while our IP reputation system helps keep this at bay, it's also catching quite a lot of legitimate users now thanks to the prevalance of VPNs. So we'll need to come up with a new approach. (And no, even Cloudflare Turnstile isn't enough to keep them away, sadly, as there are plenty of human-backed adversarial networks too trying to make scam Gmail addresses look legit by subscribing them to newsletters.)
However, we do subscribe many people manually, and we also have RSS - http://javascriptweekly.com/rss - so you don't have to deal with email at all if you don't want to. There are also numerous other options out there, which I've linked in a sibling comment.
"Generally, the more weight people regained, the more their cardiovascular and metabolic health improvements reversed."
You don't say ;-) I lost 50 lbs and have kept it off for the past year while maintaining great BP. But I'm under no illusions GLP-1 medications don't have dangers and cause problems for many. It should be handled on an individual basis like any serious medication.
That said, is someone losing a lot of weight then gaining half of it back worse than them just staying where they were? I don't know the answer to that one.
Figured this was important because I imagine there are people who think of unlisted gists as 'private' and a handy way to move data around, but they're not.
I run a similar business to Techmeme, just in a different medium, and Gabe's consistency and calm approach has been an influence in showing not everything has to grow huge or turn into 100+ employees. Being consistent and providing value over decades pays dividends of its own and can give you a good income.
The only thing that irritates me about the site is the wall of citations under every item on the desktop version, but I suspect that is key to its ongoing success since quite often I see people boasting about their appearance there and it's a form of social proof. However, if you want to skip that, the "river" view is perfect: https://www.techmeme.com/river
