well, they will be stealing money once they won't be able to keep up with stakeholders demands and crush the AI economy forcing gov to bail them out. Time is indeed a circle i suppose
Common misconception, they are a public benefit corporation, which is a shorthand that means they do not serve for the benefit of their public shareholders but instead are ruled exclusively by their founders and Ben Bernanke. It’s tongue in cheek!
Shareholders in PBC have no sway. Look up drakes landing v. tilden park from earlier this year. A PBC was in financial trouble and two specific lenders proposed a solution: financing and debt conversion that would increase their combined ownership from roughly 25% to 85%, heavily diluting all other shareholders. An independent special committee of the PBC approved it.
Shareholders holding more than half the stock had requested a vote against this, but none occurred. They were told that the mission of the PBC came first.
It’s an absolutely crazy financial loophole. Basically, if you found your company under these PBC rules (which have only existed for like a decade), you can avoid any accountability to shareholders and do whatever the fuck you want. It’s a total subversion of property law. You can own a majority of the company and they can still unilaterally vote to dilute your holdings to zero.
seeing people getting exciting whispering to their LLM in public is wild. SF soon will be full of people whispering something to each other. Sometimes its okay to touch a grass guys. It does not hurt to connect with outside world
Most publicly listed companies in the West require independent audits. Those audits are published for everyone to read. The listed company and the auditors are all tightly regulated, and while fraud can happen, it's relatively rare.
I think you're making the mistake of thinking that because fraud occasionally happens in the West, it's on anywhere close to the same scale as China. If Chinese companies were capable of passing independent audits, they'd all be publishing independent audits. That would be a massive confidence booster in China and internationally, and stock prices would rise significantly. They don't, because they wouldn't pass.
not op, but can give my personal example. I was banned from one of the twitch streamers subreddits because I questioned hype about GTA 6 and called it ghetto simulator. Reason was for stirring controversial and provoking topics.
