Most people on my project are too. But honestly Claude has gotten good and for 100 dollars of tokens the code is more readable than a humans and I prefer to review it.
For what it’s worth a lot of the code in my company is similar in scope and style. Our design documents are very very thorough and catch edge cases .
I’m not in an ic role anymore but I do feel sad about the loss of handwritten code. It hits at my identity.
As for the article it feels like this is an abuse of ai and is being used for executive cover.
Republicans were, mostly, the ones responsible for encouraging this in the 80's and 90's with manufacturing.
Now that the unbelievable damage is done to families, towns, and cultures of entire regions of the US, they can swoop in and fix it for white collar workers.
I usually do not agree with her but I do here. There is a lot of nervousness where I live that the power rates will rise to support the build out in infra for data centers.
After working in tech I know they really are only in it to maximize profit at any expense necessary, and I personally do not trust them.
If you want buid out data centers fine, but build brand new infrastructure and supply your own water and waste management to not harm the existing community.
These companies are making billions and should be able to do this.
You don't seem to understand how CRAPitalism works. Profits are privatized, losses and expenses are dumped onto the the community whenever possible to increase profits further
I wish this weren’t the case but autonomous ai warfare is the future. We should accept that fact. Likely attribution for war crimes will be hard to pin down responsibility for.
It likely is the future, same as bombs once were, that doesnt mean we allow people to go about clusterbombing residential neighbourhoods you know? If you cannot predict the inpact, if you cannot minimize collateral damage reliably, then it isnt tech that is ready for the front lines. There's a reason we ban biological warefar, even though its even more effective than AI driven weapons. So, what the fuck? Why are we deciding this isn't worth regulating?
The more of this shit i see, the gross incompetence, the total lack of reverence for human life, the more I see a butlerian jihad as the only viable option.
A tool is a tool, and abuse of a tool, intentional or by gross incompetance should not earn a free pass because the tech is new.
We need to hold people accountable for their action/inaction.
> Our opponents are countries like Iran, who think nothing of butchering tens of thousands of their own citizens for protesting against the Islamic regime.
Freeport McMoran is supporting the butchering of 500,000 indigenous West Papuans so that they can extract gold, copper, etc from the Grasberg mine. Cargill and Monsanto are helping the ecocidal clearing of millions of hectares of virgin West Papuan rainforest. The flag all of them fly is red, white, and blue.
They gleefully help butcher millions of people so that they can get the resources for a few dimes less. I can assure you that is no "accidental tragedy". You have a word for it already. You call us collateral damage.
Ah yeah, the 'Free World" is more civilized than those barbarians, because when we bomb schools, we...?
It's pathetic that plenty of people think the answer to barbarism is to be as barbaric (but with justification). For example responding to a day of terror with years of genocide. I suppose it's "fine" to do that, but only if you stop pretending you're more civilized than your opponents.
Jon Stewart's response to 9/11 was something along the lines of "I want revenge, I think we should bomb them to pieces.. that's why I shouldn't be the one in charge of our response".
Is the cost prohibitive , or a proprietary model?
