Yeah, when you realize this decade and the next, pretty much everyone you grew up whose entertainment you consumed in the 60s-80s, who was an adult then, is coming up... it's a sobering thought.

I feel like happiness is not an absolute nor permanent state. It's ephemeral and relative. You go to a deli shop and your favorite sandwich maker makes your meatball sub just the way you like it. You eat that sub and relish every bite. You're happy and ... reasonably happy .... like Huell. Then later at night you get dumped by your g/f. Now you're sad and you experienced both on the same day.

I think the same way about sadness and depression. Not an absolute nor permanent state. You have your moments when you are sad and/or depressed and then you bounce back.

I think most people normally experience all these emotions on a cyclical basis.

Couldn't you say the very same about luck, too? I'd say luck and happiness are mostly an attitude thing. If life gives you lemons, make lemonade and all that.

Maybe the title should be "Don't be Poor in America" . If you're rich then there's really no issue.

I was well off, 20 years at Apple, didn’t help me or my wife [1]. I don’t think the NHS is perfect, but I also don’t think they’d intentionally mistreat someone to make more profit. Healthcare in the USA is genuinely fucked, and in some cases, genuinely evil.

Nintendo is a close 2nd. They can keep selling the same damn game every 5 years and people will keep buying while complaining about it. Their consumers just can't help themselves. They think if they just buy Ocarina of Time one more time with newer graphics that they'll be able to fill the void in their life. But for Nintendo it's all gravy.

On the other hand I still play OoT on my original N64... when it gets boring I just wait another year or so and can play through again. Have been considering purchasing a PS2 because I never had one but spend very little time playing video games, not enough to justify it.

Wow, if you can't get a buddy to use it for free... this really is not the same league as the iPhone.

I wouldn't use an iPhone if somebody gave me one for free.

My buddy hasn't used it to do any work in a while. Only uses it every now and then to watch movies.
