You can use mkvtoolnix for that and it has a GUI

Yes, that's what I do on Arch. I don't have multilib enabled and manage to run everything just fine.

Alyssa did some work for Valve, they might have an interest in FEX for some ARM version of Proton.

Good thing that we can all benefit from it

She left Collabora last year and now works for Valve as a contractor.

I haven't had Google Maps installed on my phone for at least 4 years now. In the beginning using Apple Maps was an exercise in frustration at times but nowadays it's better than Google Maps in a lot of scenarios. Annecdoctaly we if we were driving somewhere sometimes I had to unplug my phone to get Google Maps directions on Car Play but lately it's actually the opposite.

POI, restaurant reviews etc are still miles better in Google, but using the web version is enough for those.

That line stood out, powerful enough for 3D games but not for Karaoke…

3D games don't involve on-device ML.

Using GPU's for ML is not very efficient on low-power devices. Having dedicated ML circuitry is the way to go.

Leaving yet another alternative to the ones mentioned elsewhere on this comment section, Lose It![1]

It has a premium version to track more than just calories but barcode scanning is part of the free version

[1]: https://www.loseit.com/

The premium version has lots of (IMO) valueless features like "macro nutrient tracking" and "water intake tracking" and "customize how many snacks you want in a day".

The free version has all the actual valuable stuff, minimal advertising, and the app, on android at least, is perfectly willing to leave you alone and not notify you with spam or advertising or anything. It's been around since literally the original app store release and is still pretty good.

There can be value to tracking macros & water intake - someone working out to gain muscle will want to monitor that they're getting enough protein, and someone with a family history of diverticulitis or Crohn's will want to track dietary fibre & water intake.

That said - you can get to that information through the free app as well. Just tap on the Dashboard and tap on the Macronutrients graph, and you can get through to daily & weekly breakdowns.

I've often tried upgrading to Premium, but for some reason a Play Store bug keeps preventing my subscription from completing (and somehow they haven't noticed, for months?) I don't need cloud sync anyway. I wish they just had a paid app with a local database, and a CSV export feature so my data isn't locked up. Like when we used to track this stuff using diet tracking apps on Palm Pilots....

Indeed, the fact that you can't export your data is my biggest gripe with fitness trackers. Maybe there's something you can do to "launder" the data through google fit, and maybe find a way to pull it out that way, but I haven't found one yet.

I did something similar to my LG TV at the expense of losing the motion sensor of the remote… Worth it in my opinion

Love pi-hole! I’m running it on a tiny ROCK Pi S[1] next to my router and haven’t had any issues whatsoever.

Always amazed at the amount of requests blocked by just the default list included with pi-hole. Although I’m a bit concerned that more and more apps/devices will start using DNS over HTTPS to get around pi-hole like solutions…

I don't like using browser extensions for password managers (I read in the past these are usually the easier attacks, might not be true nowadays) and switched from LastPass to Bitwarden.

The feature I miss is that LastPass has a Mac MenuBar app which provided a global shortcut to search my wallet, for Bitwarden I always have to open the app.

Also, the iPhone app doesn't let you view attached images in the app, you have to first download them to the phone's storage.

Which JVM are they using?

They are using a light fork with most patches improving font rendering/anti-aliasing https://github.com/JetBrains/jdk8u https://github.com/JetBrains/JetBrainsRuntime

I used Intellij years ago on Linux, nice to know that they improved font rendering. It was really ugly back then.

I'm surprised the JVM itself would be concerned with such things? That seems like it would be a standard library fork
