To be fair, it's mostly an evergreen skill because people don't know how to exit.

I know you're joking but if one can't figure out how to quit vi they should find other employment opportunities in other fields of work.

And I bet emacs has a mode for that too.

I don't have a problem, I can quit anytime I want!

Friends don't let friends use vi - they know that once you start, you'll never quit!

if you learned it in class, I hope you learn how to exit!

Or....

The argument is that it is older software in the sense that it's unmaintained because better alternatives exist.

Also, I don't believe it is fair to dismiss skeptics as inventing reasons. If anything, "believers" are bending over backwards to praise Anthropic even though they didn't actually release anything.

There are plenty of size limited competitions, too (256 bytes, 4k, 8k, 64k) and competitions for old-school platforms.

This is a fun exercise, but I'm surprised that someone is just dropping nearly $1600 to do so.

I'd stop doing this if it would cost me $160.

The pricing issue is valid, though. It's hard to use a lot of these tools in anger without having to go to fairly expensive plans.

Insignificant compared to salaries in most countries.

Do you really need an excuse to buy more gear? meme-be-honest.jpg

Actually, visiting from The Netherlands showed me a popup congratulating me on the quality of our postal code system.

When they inevitably move to JSON I sure hope nobody's shop includes a quote in the name.

JSON is only written one way, CSV parses all have tweaks for delimiters and column names or not and such.

Alternatively, make your site so popular that manufacturers tune their description to work with your site :)

This blog is so much fun to read. Super well written and researched, and it definitely scratches an itch for me. A lot of these tools seemed boring and mysterious to me when I was growing up, but seeing that these tools were actually already really powerful considering the hardware they're running on is very interesting.

Author here. Thank you very much for your very kind words. I'm quite happy to hear that I was able to make reading about a database fun; "make it not boring" is my personal goal with the posts. It's nice to have confirmation I've achieved that for someone. I hope I can continue to build something you enjoy.
