With how poorly this site is designed, you'd think REAs intentionally made it to poison the well and preempt the people who'd fill the market gap by setting up a competent agency review website.
The guy who made it has a legal background, I won't fault him on design. He has been immensely popular in Australia over calling out illegal rental actions.
The explanation is quite good but is there even more detail on what the assembly instructions are doing on a line by line basis? I’ve only written MIPS assembly and that was a long time ago.
You know it's a good paper when you reach the end and ask "is that it?" and yet no one else has thought of it before.
Side note: local-global approximation seems to do well in graphics and visual tasks. For example in the field of alpha matting the state of the art for a while was KNN Matting which sampled locally and globally. Most methods since then have taken a similar approach.
Adnan is the guy who may or may not have killed his girlfriend in the 90's. You are thinking Anand. As in AnandTech. And even without Mr. Shimpi AnandTech is still one of the best sources for in-depth reviews of hardware.
They have fallen behind in CPU and GPU testing methodology especially around games. Their testing of databases was pretty awful (it fit in memory) and a variety of other obvious limitations to their testing I would argue they are not only worse than they were when Anand ran the show but now significantly worse than a lot of the places they compete with.
Pcper is a significantly more capable review site these days.
thats afaik not done because of the performance overhead.
most requests take only a fraction of a second to answer. to actually monitor threads on that frequency you'd need not only a significant portion for the monitoring (ever looked at the CPU usage with running top?) but also for the network communication to send that over to the lb, which needs to process the data for load balancing
What exactly is wrong with that discussion? I found the level of evangelical, employee circle jerking at these SpaceX events to be nauseating. And that was before they started chanting. Well done guys but it's just not necessary.
Good ol' HN. These folks are pushing the boundaries like nobody else, advancing humanity more than a thousand Facebooks or Snapchats ever could, but if they express pride in their work it's a "circle jerk."
If they chanted "SpaceX," or "Falcon 9," or "JCSAT-14" it would signify pride in their work. The "USA" chant glorifies the state/government above all else.
It's the same reason why foreigners are baffled by, for example, the Pledge of Allegiance.
I wouldn't say it glorifies the state above all else but I would point out that even in a private company such as SpaceX the employees tend to be aware of the role government plays within the realm of space exploration.
I choose to view the chants as a showing of pride in the acceptance that despite the hard work being done by the employees at SpaceX, none of this would be possible without the pioneering work of NASA and other governmental research organizations, as well as the myriad of universities that educate our workforce, largely supported by the American taxpayer.
I won't propose to speak on behalf of others but in my case whenever I feel a sense of pride or accomplishment for something I have done, whether that be here at work or in my personal life, I certainly try and take a moment to acknowledge in my mind the many people, some of whom I have no direct connection with, who have played a role in my success.
As the child of immigrants who sacrificed a great deal for the opportunity to come to the US and as someone who grew up poor, not particularly bright, and with no formal education beyond that of high school, but who now has the opportunity to work on hardware that is launched into space, I always try and maintain a sense of appreciation for the country, and its people, that I now call home.
Well the advances remain to be seen in the decades to come. I could understand that level of excitement for putting a person on Mars but not for a satellite deployment or ISS restocking mission.
Maybe it's just a cultural difference but there is something unsettling and cringey about seeing those employees act so enthusiastic.
Is it genuine? Maybe for some employees. But the camera setup makes me think there is some expectation placed upon the employees that they will be there to cheer. It's not natural.
Soccer and sports in general are the spaces reserved for tribal and pre-civilized behaviours: rooting for one team against another, chanting, cheering for a victory or for the defeat of the opponent (in confrontations that are purely symbolic).
Those who take this behaviour outside of the stadium often tend to salute their comrades with a straight arm, and resort to knives and sticks to prove their superiority outside of the pitch.
Or, you could see it like this. Europe has seen enough of nationalistic pride and of masses chanting in the streets. It didn't end well, and we know it. The USA don't happen to have made the experience yet in first person, though they certainly have a second hand knowledge of it.
Pride in the accomplishments of your own nation is a good thing. However often it clouds your perception of its faults and wrongdoings.
> Those who take this behaviour outside of the stadium often tend to salute their comrades with a straight arm, and resort to knives and sticks to prove their superiority outside of the pitch.
Or... they launch rockets into space, and land them back on a small platform.
The main missions are fairly routine and I don't see people getting particularly excited about those. What everybody's excited about is the landings, and those absolutely deserve every bit of excitement we can put up.
> We’ve all been there: Some jerk cuts you off on the highway. You lean on the horn, scream abuse. You want to get out the car and kick the @#$% out of the bozo’s SUV.
"The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that between 1990 and 1996 road rage contributed to 218 deaths and 12,610 injuries. The study analyzed 10,037 police reports and newspaper stories about traffic accidents that led to violence. What's more, AAA found that road rage incidents increased nearly 7 percent each year within that six-year period."
Not sure what you're trying to say, exactly. "There is proof that road rage exists"? OP didn't say "Road rage doesn't exist", he said "It's not universal". A universal quantifier ("all" or "none") can be disproven with a counter-example (op to article), an existential quantifier ("some" or "not all") can't (you, if I understand it correctly, to op).
Yeah. I know road rage isn't rare, but some people talk about it like its normal behavior. Most people I know, including myself, don't let minor annoyances get to them like that.
That's not necessarily true. Most people in electric RC hobbies use Lithium batteries without any form of protection circuitry on the battery or cells themselves. The fire rate in the hobby is very low.
As far as I know the percentage of hoverboards that catch fire can also be low. It may be just that RC hobbyists usually don't post pictures of their flaming batteries on Facebook with a comment that they are a terrible fire hazard and demand to be taken off the market.
For what anecdotal evidence is worth, I know of one house fire and one car fire due to lithium batteries among the members of my local RC club.
They don't use protection during discharge, which is the relatively safe part of the cycle. They're careful to match the pack to the discharge demand to prevent thermal runaway. They're also at a considerable distance from the pack when it is in use. During charging, any sensible RC hobbyist uses a good balance charger and a LiPo safety bag.
It's also worth bearing in mind that lithium batteries replaced methanol and nitromethane fuel in the RC hobby, which isn't exactly benign.
Yep, I've been using Lithium batteries since 15 yrs, (electrics RC helicopters ) with high volts/amps capacity (10-14s) 5-6Ah, you just need to know the specifications theses kinds of batteries have, and not being an asshole
Also If you dont trust your local chinese batterie dealer use this http://cpc.cx/eA8 it saves my home couple of time, when I make mistakes...
