Imagine if every merchant came up with their own currency and forced you to pay them in it only. Wouldn't a global currency be a lot more efficient & frictionless?
I am not satisfied classifying the extremely broad category of "processed foods" as "bad". Technically olive oil is a processed food, so is milk and frozen meat. What about Soylent? It's very much a processed food but is probably much healthier than the typical processed foods out there.
We all know what is meant by "processed foods" - we're talking about packets of chips, soda, biscuits (both sweet and savoury), most 'breakfast cereals'.
When people refer to "processed foods" they don't mean to include all packaged food. Many packaged foods and long shelf life products, are fine so long as your also eating at least some fresh food.
Putting 5 apples in a plastic bag with a barcode on it a processed food does not make.
I'm not so sure. That phrase is bandied about with no definition ever advanced. None is given here either - just 'we all know'.
Well, folks have been eating cooked food for 40,000 years or more. Been threshing/separating grain from chaff for nearly that long. Does that make it all 'processed'? Probably not. Then what does? We've certainly become adapted to any processing that started that long ago. So what is the issue with it?
"We understand the complexities of having a child and we also understand how selfish we currently are."
How is not having a child selfish? I believe that having children is way more selfish - there's already 6 billions mouths feed and it's just adding another one.
I guess it's a matter of perception. If I'm going to have a child, I'm basically giving up my lifestyle of travel, going out wherever/whenever I want, spending money on what I want, eating out all the time, etc... In order to provide for that child. This is selfish activity, as far as I'm concerned. However, this is how my wife and I live at the moment. We don't want a child ruining our fun! :)
There are 7 billion people in the world not 6, yet approximately 50% of all food produced is thrown out uneaten. Sorry, you'll have to find another drum to pound.
I strongly agree. Limerance has never been a "great feeling" for me, especially because it pushes one to take important decisions that they would have never taken otherwise. What's best for your genes is not necessarily what's best for you.
> What's best for your genes is not necessarily what's best for you
That brings about all sorts of meta-questions. I mean, for starters who's to say that's true? Is what's best for you really whatever makes you happy, or is what's best for you what's best for your genes?
We have evolved the ability to pursue goals that are more fulfilling than simply "Passing on the genes". That's why, for one thing, we have condoms. People can consciously decide whether to have children or not, and I believe most educated people agree that this is a good thing. There is no reason why we should allow evolution (which has zero foresight) to dictate what's good for us.
Thank you for posting this! I went on his youtube channel to see what it's all about and I ended up watching the first 7 lessons in Biology... and I had 3 or 4 "gotchas" that I never got in school... man this is fun. I'm sure to continue watching this stuff. I want to watch it all!
