Why? We have been allowing technology to progress us for decades. Why stop now?

Signatures are completely pointless. Literally draw squiggles as anyone else can. Nobody ever checks or compares them to the original, how can they?

My signature on a touchpad is noticeably different from my paper signature. It’s been a real challenge for me recently as I’ve had to sign a number of paper documents while the “official” signature on file for me is an electronic one from a touch interface. A few times I have had to resubmit fresh copies when the first ones were rejected.

You could also claim it wasn't your signature and be refunded, but you can't claim that if the delivery person obtained the password only you had.

Another vote for Kagi from me. Been using it for 3 years now and not looked back. When you accidentally use Google to search, or use a browser with defaults, you will notice really how crap Google/Bing are!

This made me actually lol. I feel your pain!

This is amazing! Can this be self hosted?

It is a static site that doesn't require a server and can be hosted anywhere.

Are there any instructions on self hosting?

The people who don’t know how to use an LLM to make them more productive, or are scared it’s going to take their job, are louder than the people who are making good use of them to make them more productive.

That just seems to be human nature unfortunately - the complainers are always louder.

As someone currently "making good use of" generative AI while simultaneously being painfully aware of its shortcomings, I think the overall discourse is a bit more nuanced. Bucketing folks into simple "for" and "against" GenAI camps does nothing to cover the vast spectrum in between, making your take ultimately built on a false dichotomy. Further implying those camps fall on the lines of those "in the know" of AI vs "those in denial/scared of" is patronizing at best, and I've grown tired of this oversimplification parroted out every time the topic of LLM systems come up.

Those within well informed, technical circles will fall somewhere in between the for/against labels, myself included.

The GenAI hype cycle is finally starting to collapse as the general population starts to realize that these systems aren't the panacea for "everything" after all. They provide enormous utility in some domains like coding, but even then there are massive tradeoffs, footguns and the usual horse blinder ills that come with every hype cycle. I just hope we stop having to "learn the hard way" with respect to undisciplined use of current-gen LLM systems writ large, and cooler heads prevail sooner rather than later.

Not sure why my comment is being downvoted. Am I mistaken and folks really see only for/against AI as a binary option here? Interesting to me if so. I would think that a technical community would view ai as a tool, but perhaps our existentialism is getting the better of us?

What? We must have different internets, I agree in general, but the "AI is the second coming" crowd is louder than standing next to a jet on takeoff. I'm in the "AI is making me more productive but a worse developer" crowd, don't know what I count as.

You got shuttled into one bubble and the previous commenter into another advertising / news bubble. It's incredible how different the media experience is for people in different media bubbles.

Just because he didn’t write the readme himself doesn’t mean it’s irrelevant. The OP will have (hopefully) at least read through it before committing it and at that point the content is relevant and if the OP cares, accurate. You’re generalising if you think everyone blindly copy pastes LLM output

These travel routers have an option to impersonate the device you are using to get round this.

The throttling is "per device", not "per type of device". If you connect 1 travel router and use it to share internet with >1 user, those users are sharing the capped capacity the plane gives to "one connected device".

“Unaffected by legalisation” - so at least there’s more proof than outlawing drugs doesn’t work.

I’ve lived in the UK for 35 years and lived in various properties built in every decade from 70s-10s. Some much older and less loved ones did have single pane windows but have never seen plumbing on the outside. Maybe on much older houses? Certainly not on anything remotely new. A lot of new builds here have solar, heat pumps and insulation has been excellent for at least 20 years.

You do relatively commonly see wastewater piping on the outside of a house in the UK, especially older stock (soil stack from the toilet, waste pipe from sink or bath running into it). This is fine in the UK climate where a normally empty pipe doesn't need insulation. I hear that it won't work in places that get extreme low winter temperatures, but the UK doesn't have winters that cold.

You don't see them on new builds, I think, probably because the pipe going from inside to outside would reduce insulation effectiveness.

Yeah it makes sense for buildings where plumbing was retrofitted.

Otherwise people try to retrofit narrow drain pipes in the walls which are prone to clogging or give you poor flushing performance. Or outside big enough pipes outside interior walls where you get to hear every flush/shower unless you build a box around that. Easier to just run it outside if you can configure your bathrooms that way.
