It works fine in chat, been using it for years

1:1 would be encrypted by default

I don't have such issues, seems like we're living in different worlds

What fundamental issues

If you don't want to just random people's content, dont let random people use your server

Doesn't Element support unified push?

So you can use a custom push server

> I would be willing to consider paying for vetted ads

why, though?

Becoming aware of the existence of products and services you might like is not inherently bad.

It's the state of the industry that is bad.

Threema: proprietary, outside EU

Zulip: lacks encryption, interoperability

Threema is Swiss, which is a regional EFTA member. It's end-to-end encrypted and the clients are open-source.

Zulip has client-server encryption, which is fine if you control the server.

Threema is still vendor lock-in.

Wasn’t Threema sold this week or something?

Not sure what / if that changes anything, but presumably it will… sometime…

Why would they need encryption? Does the european commision have anything to hide?

Chat control for thee but not for me?

so Matrix doesn't have self hostable open source options?
