> This is going to bring a LOT of money to my county which sorely needs it and a LOT of people to my dying rural town.

This is the crux of the whole thing is it not? People want money into their communities and even more into their pockets:

But not everything turns out fine:

Overall it is fine to say that this money will help the community but pretending that everything is going to be fine and others do not understand or that they are "tiktok informed voting block" is kind of low hit.

Opus 5.5 is also more cost efficient than Opus 5 - costing 50% lower. Anthropic margins and/or people's usage has to be higher to continue growth.

Anthropic S1 had numbers up till Q2. Many people speculated that Q3 numbers were lower because many companies had moved away from "token as measure of productivity" or tokenmaxxing. Anthropic Q3 numbers proved that theory.

As the article notes the growth is still huge. But it has slowed down relative to what they were growing.

My employer - one of the Fortune 500 - has been on the "everything AI" train. The fun part is that the same management which harps on measurable outcomes when asked about AI adoption have the same "AI boosts productivity".

They even brought in McKinsey who I believed, if nothing else, can spin up a good yarn. But even they couldn't create a metric based assessment other than "productivity gains".

Now I am not saying there is no productivity gains. Surely there is but I am always curious what metric people are using to measure these gains.

So if you are delivering multiple times faster I have to ask - How much time are you saving and how many employees worth of work you are doing now? 2-3-5 headcount worth of work? If yes, how do you calculate those numbers? And lastly would you put your money where you mouth is and if your team is lets say 10 person team and the company asks to reduce it down to say 2-4-5 people - would you take that bet confidently to continue with the same pace and produce quality work?

I am surprised there is no Gemini: will return in Avengers Doomsday.

Part of this is that some people whine about reaching across party lines and working together when they start losing. Biden's responsibility to keep the country together and pander to far right, when shoe is othe foot it is about owning the libs.

What is this argument really? Comparing one man’s corruption to a whole party with decades of history. “Honey my cheating on you is bad but look at this man Trump with decades of public philandering.” Whataboutism at its finest.

No, it's more like "oh wow that explains why Americans do not trust institutions, have massive unfavorable feelings about the democratic party, and voters no longer believe democratic politicians are pro-worker."

Like this is a thread about corruption but I guess if you give a shitty corporate veneer it's suddenly. If you're older than 40 you saw the democratic party implement NAFTA, cut welfare programs, and bail out banks; apparently these three major policy pillars aren't related to people's feelings on corruption.

Totally independent, they're just totally only saying Trump + republicans are corrupt not like the entire system that compromises two parties both of which are in bed with corporations and voters have a lived history reflecting just this.

Next thing you're going to tell me is that the Gaza Genocide played no role in Harris losing '24 either.

While voting by mail himself. Yes the hypocrite-in-chief. Rules for thee, none for me.

> Protecting workers from that kind of competition seems fair. Tariffs aren't bad in itself. They are just a tool.

At the cost of consumers paying for goods/services?

Your take is as reductive as the take in the comics.

People in a nation working 5 days a week for 8 hours are getting paid less and less over time. Heck lot of people now need double shifts to make ends meet totaling up to 12 hr or even more. They can only afford a Christmas light from the nation mass producing it by working 6 days a week, 12 hr shift.

And lets not pretend this was only about protecting workers. There were multiple agendas:

1. Bring back jobs 2. Remove trade barriers between countries 3. Make US rich by collecting huge amount of tariffs

All three can't be true at the same time. If jobs are brought back then you aren't going to collect huge amount of tariffs because nothing is being produced outside. If trade barriers are removed then that comes at a cost of slashing tariffs so you can't really collect huge amount of tariffs.

The foolish reasoning highlighted in the comics is the reason there is so much trade war.

It is more than Chinese steel: https://www.nytimes.com/2026/08/25/world/canada/trump-carney...

Asking them to change French programming laws, and stopping the "Buy Canadian goods" law etc.
