The EU closed a tax loophole, and I'm happy to support small local businesses over people shipping things from overseas. I'm sure there are edge cases, but overall I don't see an issue here.
Living in Belgium, my country has people producing stuff. But does it have a small business producing that one specific item I absolutely require for my project? It’s very likely it doesn’t. If I extend my search to the whole of EU, yes, probably one or two small businesses make those. Are there sufficient people in Belgium to buy this item if I wanted to create a small business to do so? No.
This tax is probably closing a loophole, but it’s badly designed and hurts small businesses more than anything because small businesses are the most likely to send to other countries to build their initial base. This tax reduces the discovery of what people do in ways no other tax did before.
No this even further consolidates international shipping to big e-commerce platforms while adding yet another tax to EU residents for items even where no local producer exists or can exist.
It's an ad ridden sewer. The final straw was disabling comment visibility to only those who are logged in. I used that site a bunch for Kenshi and the comments were a trove of information. No more. I refuse to make an account on that visual nightmare.
Always replace “fandom” with “breezewiki” in the url. It’ll take you to a de-crapified version, and also check for the existence of a real wiki separate from fandom and link to that:
Fandom and fextralife are the two “wiki” providers that do this. It’s best to exclude them both from all search results. Fextralife is even worse as it autoplays a twitch steam.
My only issue with WASM is that it forces me to contort my platform abstraction later to terrible web APIs. Other than that it's great. I can compile C++ with plain clang or the WASI SDK, and it runs everywhere at near native speeds with minimal boilerplate.
Solar Roof was vaporware when it was presented by Musk. It was blatant fraud. There's no "free energy" here. The roof was way more expensive than a regular roof covered in solar panels.
Nobody's forcing you to buy products in plastic bottles. It would actually be better if you didn't. "Technology and progress" are so far producing mountains of trash and pollution that you're privileged to not have to see, unlike those children in Africa, and other impoverished places where your garbage washes up. You're proud of winning the lottery. Have some self-awareness.
Europeans were blowing each other up 80 years ago. Now we have complete freedom of movement and trade. You're missing the forest for the trees. The EU is the greatest achievement of our parents' generation.
I don't think this is a solution. I do this often naturally, I walk around and "plan", and it feels like I'm just avoiding sitting down and doing the actual task.
The author talks about it; when facing a difficult problem, they go get a glass of water, and get distracted. That's what this is. Anything but doing the actual task. If you're going to take a break, take an honest break and rest, but then go back to work. That's the real solution, and boy is it hard to do these days.
I'm not talking about using a walk as a way to avoid doing real work. I mean doing real work, putting your focus in it, while you walk for, say, at least twenty minutes to really get the blood moving.
But don't wait until you're mentally exhausted to do it. It's not a way to recharge, not a substitute for rest. It's a way to remove distractions and get your whole body into an exercise that requires your attention.
In light of WebGPU, I respectfully disagree. Because it has us building shader modules, buffers, and pipelines up-front with descriptors, the task of figuring out why something isn't working is often front-loaded. Pair that with its eloquent warnings (in comparison to, like, gl.getProgramParameter(shader, gl. COMPILE_STATUS) ) and the ability to label all your stuff to see it referred to by name in aforementioned warnings text... I'm rambling, but, there's just a lot of helpful stuff in WebGPU that I don't think OpenGL has, that stands to really help newcomers along
