The Replace-By-Fee flag in Bitcoin is effectively a built-in paid accelerator that covers all miners. I think the reason inefficiencies like this exist is because a lot of wallets either don't implement it or don't have it on by default.
Most of that stems from the fact that the US dollar is the main global reserve currency - so people around the world are willing to accept them in exchange for real goods and services.
This won't be the case forever. Once it flips, the magically cheap overseas goods become the expensive imported goods only rich people can afford.
Yeah, just a century ago the reserve currency was the pound sterling, a century before that the franc, a century before that the Dutch guilder. I guess people in those times also expected the status quo to last forever.
Who said there was a problem? We had certain priors on corruption and contested the .org sale on the grounds that these guys were corrupt. We pushed for the California AG to investigate ICANN and they did on the grounds that these guys were corrupt. Turns out they were corrupt.
This is just the loop being closed. Our posterior probability of corruption rises only a very little bit because most people observing and participating kinda expected this.
It depends on what android version your phone had. You cannot flash TWRP on phones that came with 10 by default (there might be few workarounds). Mine came with 8.0 and I flashed it later.
Is that your main concern about Startpage? As a Startpage person, maybe I can shed some light on this. Last year, Startpage announced an investment in Startpage by System1 through Privacy One Group, a wholly-owned subsidiary of System1. With this investment, the plan is to further expand privacy features & reach new users. The Startpage founders have control over the privacy components of Startpage. I wish that page was a little clearer as to how startpage still has control, since it turns out system1 now has a majority stake in startpage. However, in reading the letter from your CEO linked at the top, it appears this is by covenant. While in theory that could be renegotiated in the future, it is a relatively strong protection. It would be nice to see the exact language of said covenant and whether there are protections requiring public notification if it is ever changed or rescinded. I know that is probably not going to happen, but it's worth communicating what I think would be a common desire.
