Can you describe your setup please? I've been thinking about moving the family members off Gmail a lot lately.

Sorry for the late reply, but it's a pretty standard (imo) setup with postfix, dovecot, spamassassin, postfixadmin.

I'm planning to redo this soon (been a few years) and I'm as of yet undecided if I just do it manually again (like I do every 3-5 years) or if I'll use some template ala sovereign, mailinabox, mailcow, modoboa.

Also check this thread from last year: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=16238937

Thank you for all the details and suggestions!

I am not colorblind, but work with data visualization in Matlab a lot. This hilarious SciPy2015 talk[1] convinced me to switch to the Parula color scheme. There's no way I'm going back to Jet.

Shouldn't it have convinced you to switch to Viridis instead?

Yes, Viridis is quantifiably better than Parula, as the talk shows, but Parula comes with the standard Matlab, and the jump from Jet to Parula was of such a tremendous magnitude that I kind of fell in love with the Parula color scheme right away. Jump from Parula to Viridis would be less noticeable, I guess. The talk opened my eyes to the fact that there are much better ways to use color for information presentation. (Sorry for the late reply)

This talk was awesome. Best explanation i've ever heard for why color spaces have the odd shape they do. The 3d models of perceivable color spaces for different colorblindnesses was also really insightful.

There's a special portal for current events: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal:Current_events.

How many languages do you speak more or less fluently?

2 fluently (French and English), and a barbarism of italian

All right, since everybody seems to have read the handbook, here's something fresh: Gabe Newell's email [0], taken from today's r/Steam, where he shares his thoughts behind the flat company structure which Valve is so famous for.

Nice try, but you still got an 'e' in your username )

This reminds me of another story by Leo Traynor about troll's victim tracking down and finally meeting the troll: http://www.traynorseye.com/2012/09/meeting-troll.html The massive amount of damage that can be imposed by all kinds of online manipulators to their victims' mental health and career is even more depressing than the complete absence of a solution to the problem. At least I'm glad to hear that breaking the 'Do not engage' rule brought some relief to Kathleen.

Google's cache does a surprisingly good job with all these fancy video backgrounds: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?ion=1&espv=2&q=...

If you remap Esc to jk you don't even have to lift your fingers.

Another common one is Capslock.

Mapping capslock to be esc is what made vim possible for me.

Agreed. I don't know how anybody could use vi with escape unmapped. It's also very useful outside vi though, since esc is the default 'cancel' key in many cases. For example, most browser dialogs (and keyboard-navigable menus) can be closed with esc, and it works for many desktop dialogs too (at least on Linux).

Im too lazy to move two fingers for that, instead mine is mapped to jj. =P

What is jk?

Just key 'j' followed by 'k'. I have this in my vimrc for quickly jumping out of insert mode: inoremap jk <ESC>

To each his own. I'm very fluid with my esc key hitting. I find it to be a very satisfying motion.

imap jk <Esc> In insert mode. First press j, in the same second press k.

Yay teen pregnancy!

Nope, it isn't. First birth age is growing like everywhere in post-transit countries.

(This also leads to statistics under-predicting birth rate)
