The whole article shows what happens when there's no economic growth: people eat themselves. The woke stick is used very well by younglings to smack old people.
These younglings will be experts at leaving no trace. After they have passed though an institution, will anything of worth remain?
Soon it will be standard MO for people in high position to use attorney for any communication. Saying something yourself, showing some personal facet, even a joke, is a dangerous thing.
In the darkness and silence of the void, no one can tickle my neurotic anxieties, or at least I'll believe so in the moments before they issue forth again from the only thing left.
Last I checked a heat pump is considerably more expensive than an air conditioner. And a regular air conditioner can probably only heat when the outside is not freezing.
I would actually want to get a heat pump but it's basically prohibitive. Would be nice to replace them with a "cheaper" air conditioner unit.
Hm, doesn't look marginal to me. A heat pump is like 5X-10x more costly and requires quite specialist install. An air conditioning unit is pretty easy to install by normal technicians.

When I shopped heat pumps, the actual unit was about 1.5x the cost of an equivalent air conditioner, and after installation the difference was even less.
We recently had to do a Signal bot and for an elegant codebase it sure is lacking in terms of libraries. Not to mention the license being as aggressive as possible to prevent any clients of any kind.
I did not see this play out. Geek bonding did not happen as much and faded after school when everybody was getting enough geek stimulation at work.
I've seen a great female gang from the University. But they were from random classes and the group held because they made quite some effort to maintain it.
I doubt colleges need to be kept for the friendship angle.
Well, it's not like Germany would want to sell more expensive cars or something?! :)
Note that expensive entry level cars compete with the used cars. Plenty of them. Somehow those are still able to drive on the road despite not having all those safety features (and polluting more).
I'm sure you are right about what you said, but the whole tone and field of photography reminded me of a photograph we hired.
He imagined himself as such a great artist that although doing work for hire was afraid we might use our personal family photos without giving him credit.
In the end... he sent another team to do our photographs and wouldn't even give the ~20 "edited" photographs except as a flash EXE.
I'm a programmer and I know what copyright is but that photographer was deluded.
Atomic Habits is a book that should have been a long blog post. It's amazing how many self help book could be a pamphlet with 10 printed pages for more details.
That's probably how self-help books started. Short and to the point. But it's hard for people to take the steps necessary to change, so I can imagine a lot of people simply stop doing the steps laid out in the original pamphlet, thinking there's a 'better way', that's less inconvenient.
And so we get Self Help Book 2.0, now with a lengthy introduction describing all kinds of relatable issues that convinces you that this is the right book that seems to 'get' you as an individual. But beyond the motivational first chapter, the book still contains those hard-to-do-regularly steps and insists that you must change if your habits are to. So we end up dropping that as well, choosing instead to wait for the next book that makes all the right promises.
Contrary to what you say, HN moderators kill these threads quite fast especially because... many on HN are anti woke. Fundamentally, HN is woke.
