It's back up for me now. As expected, the Nest dashboard never reported anything (https://status.nest.com/posts/dashboard).

A potential error case for you: your ai voice bot might get stuck in a loop talking to FurtherAI's voice bot from elsewhere on the thread

Yeah. I'm seeing the same thing.

So, it seems like the main concern here is that a client will not validate the SSL certificate, so the SSL layer is now manually added into javascript code using the WebCrypto API to prevent this? I see not validating SSL certificates being a potential problem with something like a REST API, but is it common to disable SSL verification at the browser level where you would need to use javascript to do this?

I'm in a similar boat with using IntelliJ super early on, and while I agree that the changes don't seem as huge as they were in the early days (mainly because, as you noted, it's now a fairly rich and complete product), they still are providing some cool features. For instance, in IntelliJ 14.1, they added a Java decompiler with debugging capabilities, so you can now ctrl+click into compiled code and set breakpoints. (http://blog.jetbrains.com/idea/2015/02/debug-decompiled-code...) .. that's been pretty cool for my workflow, at least.

The author claims that indie developers will be hit who let their licenses lapse due to limited income as well as forgetful corporations who forget to renew. I always found the reasons for these issues was because everyone's licenses expire at different times and it was hard to track (even with budgeting as an indie developer). If it is moved to a monthly service model, I think these issues would actually improve.

I think he's suggesting creating a similar project to dokku, but instead of using Docker, use Bocker.

If installing via apt-get, that means creating a debian package that provides lxc-docker-1.6.2 (docker 1.7 broke backwards compatibility in output of docker ps). Otherwise, just patching the [Makefile](https://github.com/progrium/dokku/blob/master/Makefile#L85) to check for bocker (linked to `/usr/local/bin/docker` of course) would suffice.

Though I don't think that is what he is asking for.

I'd suggest talking to the cofounders in a non-accusatory manner. Startups are often disorganized and crazy and my guess is that the tax implications of your shares didn't even cross their minds because there are so many things going on. Also, what was the previous investment amount? If the previous investment is from a family or friend, my guess is that it's more of a bridge than an investment to keep the company afloat until true investment comes in (not enough to raise salaries). Either way, I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and not jump to conclusions too early before talking to them.

It looks to me like the data was stored in a temporary cache and never got synced because the application crashed. It's an unfortunate experience, but not one that warrants a fearful take on Evernote. Things happen. I've typed a draft in Gmail before and it never got synced so I've lost it, but it doesn't make me stop using it. Maybe we all need to just take a deep breath and remember how it was before everything synced.

The note is over a year old. Maybe much more. The app should have told me something’s wrong. A red icon or a message. What if I had continued status quo for another year.

My primary assumption with Evernote is that everything is stored somewhere “safe”. Everything else is bells and whistles. It’s a bit like saying Gmail/Outlook is unable to send mails, and you are not informed.

I think I have an explanation in a separate comment, see https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9091737

Yeah, maybe adding a database integrity check / repair after a crash would be a good addition.

That is pretty awesome, although, I believe "an honor-based converter box" is a far cry from an ATM.
